Removing heater control panel (light bulb changes etc)

Firstly remove the radio. To do this you need 4 rods like this to push in the 4 holes in the radio front to release the catches. These rods are 125mm long. 4 long nails will do the job just as well. You want a diameter that just fits in the holes

They only need to go in around 50mm to release the catches. You may still need to do some careful leverage on either side of the radio to get it moving. You can put the radio to one side or probably better to detach the connectors and remove it completely but make sure you have the radio code first if you do

Now you have a bank of screws and you can see which ones you want to remove to release the lower panel.

Now remove the lower ashtray and you'll find a couple of screws down there too. Detach the ashtray lighting wire

Then you're ready to release the heater control panel which has a couple of push in locking tabs. The connectors to the panel can then be released

Re: Changing heater panel light bulbs

Does this apply to an air con version and if you fit a new panel will the change just be accepted by the cars system or would it need to go on the computer at the dealer to reset it?

Re: Changing heater panel light bulbs

Hi thanks for the help here but i'm still a little stuck.
got most of this done but I can't get the unit out at the end, it looks like all the white plastic bits that are attached are stuck behind the housing and it won't come out, do I have to click something, twist, lift, etc...?
please help, i've tried everything..and its doing my head in.
I had to put it all back together again.
thanks...dean

Re: Changing heater panel light bulbs

Thanks for this - might be worth adding that I tried forever to get the white unit out before realising it was not necessary - I just removed the three knobs and unscrewed the light distributor from the front, replaced the bulbs and put back in place.

Thanks for the guide

Re: Changing heater panel light bulbs

Can't help with getting the panel off but to change the bulbs once you have removed the stereo, you will see three tabs on the top of the heater control panel. working from one side push the tab down with a small flat head screwdriver and slide the cover over the tab. do this on the other two tabs and the panel will come away.

Then remove the thre knobs and the light distribution panel and you can get to the two bulbs. These are 1.2v bulbs.

I agree I tried like hell to get the flipping thing out then (in frustration) took radio head out got a flat head screw driver pushed down tabs and hey presto panel came away
However thought it was a bulb blown but I dont seem to have any bulbs by the dials only two tiny bulbs on circit board damn car ! but hey it was an experience.....

Re: Changing heater panel light bulbs

I have basically learnt my heater dials off by heart so that at night time I know where to direct the airflow when needed... After this guide I'm hoping to change the broken lamp on this weekend,

I assume it's just a small LED type on a circuit board, (no one as answered the requests as to "what bulbs are they?")

Re: Changing heater panel light bulbs

They are the little 0.3watt iirc bulbs that go behind the dash. Replaced mine along with power aux one with LED bulbs. Not had any issues since.

I recomend going LED as these bulbs are on ALL the time with the ignition so will blow more regularly than others.

I just did mine and it is probably the easiest thing to change on this car Get the stereo out using these four pins as the ts described then get the panel of the heater controls out , there three brackets on the under and upper side, easily accessable. Then just take the knobs out by simply pulling them out. Then get the transparent light dispersing part out.. there is one tiny screw.. and then you can replace the bulbs...

PS: forgot to mention that the bulbs are the same as those on the cigaretтe lighter
