Re: sat nav forum

tom tom are currently in the process of upgrading mapping why dont you check what version you are currently running and then visit the tomtom.comsite to see if a new version is available i know this upgrade has caused probs with units functioning before so this could be the case

as a trucker i have used many diffrent units and am still of the opinion that tomtom is the market leader at the moment if you only looking for the go1 gb great britain mapping tom tom its available for 169 if your budget is smaller there are navman units available from 99 all i will say is for future life and in terms of add ons available and upgrades and ease of use its tom tom every time for me for bargain units have alook on www.hotukdeals.com
Hi ROS, I'm looking for good accurate UK & European mapping, speed camera locations and unit with TMC, which I believe links to your Radio RDS to navigate you round traffic jams... found out me dad is looking too and seems to think that the now discontinued & discounted Mio 205 is the way to go

Re: sat nav forum

hoddamn people i was wondering if people could tell me y they have or even want maps of where cameras are.... surely if you cant see those yellow boxes u shouldnt be on the road let alone tryin to use sat nav aswell dont get me wrong i like sat nav i got a very "basic" version on my 3230 i run navicore and i tell you what its a perfect job it asks me where i want to go so i tell it and guess what.... it directs me there thats all i could ever ask for. ive ridden scotland and wales with it on my bike and i never came across any trouble with it or the law... infact i remeber in both wales and scotland i flew past numerous old bill cars and vans and offices with the throttle firmly pinned guess what i didnt get pulled!!! oh yeah and i never got flashed once by a "money maker" strange that... altho i think some local counsils have me doin about 120 weilding a middle fringer or 2 thru their front facing units...

POI's of dealers and other fiat related stuff sounds like a Very good plan!!!! anyone deal with navicore or for that mater even know how to use POI's on navicore units cos lets face it i dont

Question Re: sat nav forum

I think that a sat-nav section would be a great idea, if only because I got a Tomtom Go for my Christmas & don't have a scoobie! I can run all the basic functions, but when it comes to optimising usage and being able to add on speed cameras etc I'm out of my depth. I checked out the pocket gps site and it seems helpful but very very technical and that can be a problem, I'm relatively computer-literate but it's not the most user-friendly when you have just taken a unit out of a box for the first time!

Smile Re: sat nav forum

killyourmama i am very experienced on tomtom systems if you need help drop me a pm and i will help you add speed cams voices poi,s etc to your unit.

but before you try to do anything back up your system as sometimes adding extras can knock the system out

Re: sat nav forum

hi sumplug have researched this model for you and although it appears to be a good budget priced unit it does have flaws 1 it is noted that the sound quality is poor on this unit 2 i have it on good authority that free upgrades on this model only cover the software and not the mapping for mapping upgrades you will be charged basically if it was me investing your 179.99 i would look at garmin or tomtom units as these companys have been involved with sat nav from day one and have tried and tested products anyway good luck and ihope you find a system that suits your needs

Re: sat nav forum

I run Tomtom on my sony erriccson phone, I have the latest western europe complete map version 6.60 and most POI files on my PC. I am a pocketgpsworld member and as such get the speed cameras updates twice a month, its a real licence saver as it also has a correct speed display on it. I have friends who have used other sat navs but none seem to have the complete package like the tomtom units, and all have gone back to tomtom. I have made several POI files but alot of them are copyrighted, particularly the speed camera ones, so how could a website such as this sell files it doesnt own the copyright to? Also if the files are donated to the forum then who will keep them up to date? Also there are already fiat dealer POI files on the internet.

Re: sat nav forum

i agree that on the idea of selling files we may have run before we have walked but the original idea of my post was a forum where,by we could provide technical advice and support to forum members on sat nav issues and that we could also support members by telling them where suitable poi,s and voice files and updates may be obtained. also we could post prices and reveiws on sat nav systems ther,by helping those new to the world of sat nav to overcome a lot of problems. yes there are poi,s for fiat dealerships available but a lot are now out of date raising your issue of who would update them if we posted them here? my only answer to this would be that if there where members of the forum intrested in running a sat nav section maybe we could all come together and try and organise something.

Re: sat nav forum

After a lot of mooching around the net finally settled on TTOne Europe & 12 months Safety Camera subscription (20 quid). Like KYM still gotta look into things like adding speed cameras and deleting the 3 petrol stations from the POI's that have been bulldozed locally

@RD Yeah I see lots of speed cameras, often obsecured by tress and foliage or poorly positioned, with no bits of painted circular tin anywhere near to give you a clue as to what speed you should actually be adhering to Just decided after neigh on 20 years of motoring with only one SP30 (back in '89) and feeling like I have recently been spending too much time pondering if im gonna get an expensive photo through the post to try and keep my licence clean
