I know you can turn images off, but is there any chance you can turn off smilies too? I know other forums allow this. It's just that things like these hurt my soul:

:slayer:  :worship: :bang: (y) (n) :sucks: :tosser: :tempt:

Especially when they're posted in a big line with text that reads something like "ne1 no ne gud plces 2 go doggin'?"

Apologies if I've missed in in the user CP. I'll go and have another look.

p.s. :slayer: is especially annoying

Actually, I don't want to take away people's right to use them. After all, they're popular with the younger folks and, broadly speaking, they replace words for some people. I just want the ability to hide them or at least reduce them to a tag.

Man, I'm such a low postcount n00b on here. I doubt this is going to really register as a request.

I kinda came off sounding like an old geezer (which I am). I totally get that the main demographic for this forum is going to trend towards people in their late teens/early twenties due to the punto being such a cheap car to buy and run in the UK. Along with that comes the associated stuff like the text speak & use of smilies.

Yep I'm still sounding old...

erm, if i think hard enough i think i can just about remember them !!

I have never seen smilies turned off before in other forums :chin: then again, I don't have issues with them, even though I am older than some ;)

As for being a young forum :O I think we have a broad spectrum of ages....

BUT as for txt spk, I think anyone using it should be shot.

I dunno what software this board runs, but on invision the smilies use an "IMG" tag, so can be hidden. I see yours come up as "" so may not be treated in the same way as inline images.

Again, by "young forum", I didn't mean to insult the forum or it's membership just so you know.

even still you can insert smilies within image tags so blocking smilies would only block forum smilies unless you turn off images as well but that would make for a boring forum experience ;)
suppose ben may be able to offer the option to users but dont know if he could or would depending on work involved

I *always* turn off inline images, avatars & sigs. But I know I'm in a minority.

Bit of both. If I'm browsing at work (as I do more than I should), I prefer to minimise the "footprint" it leaves both on the proxy and the associated content filtering devices.

From a personal perspective, I prefer to concentrate on what people have written rather than be distracted by the associated gubbins of avatars/sigs and what have you.
