Erm, sorry are you trying to tell me I'm a life long member of the Fiat forum whether I want to be or not? I don't even own a Fiat. I do need my account to be deactivated please.

Once an account has posts made against it - IT CANNOT BE REMOVED, this is to ensure the forum isn't left with gaps in threads, making them nonsensical.

This was one of the conditions you agreed to when you joined the forum. As mentioned above, "Just stop logging in".
.

It just seems bonkers to me. I don't own a Fiat. I started one thread about 9 years ago. And so that the integrity of that ancient and irrelevant thread is maintained, I have stay a member forever more and have no say in the matter.

In my mind the more friendly version of the conversation goes like this:

"Hello - how can I delete my account on this site please?"

"No worries, I'll take care of it - all the best"

"Cheers!"

Weird.

Why are you that bothered about having an account on a forum you don't use?
I must have loads of account on websites I've not accessed for years

We get about 1-2 threads like this a year since I've been a member. They all end the same way...

As far as a relevance goes - you had a problem at some point I'm assuming. Someone else will probably have that problem at some point. They'll search Google. Your thread will appear, which has already been answered. They can fix the issue without having to start a whole new thread. Alternatively, they follow the thread but can't fix the issue. They can post on that thread meaning that the people trying to help can see what's already been suggested and go from there.
Basically, it's not all about you.

Doesn't matter why really, I decided to finally bother to stop the 'Happy Birthday from Fiat' emails I get once a year, thought I'd go in and cancel my account, but it honestly seems strange to be told that I'm not allowed. It's the principle of that as much as anything.

As a matter of interest, if I just started spamming and swearing all over the forum, would I be allowed to have my account cancelled then?

I'm not the kind of arsehole to do that, just curious.

Thanks for clarifying that the Fiat forum is not all about me, I was really convinced it was!!

Delete my account, keep the threads. simple.

I'll leave you to it guys. I still think you should respect someone's wish to have their account deleted if they politely ask for it.

We can anonymise the account if you want - basically I'll remove all your info from your profile, delete the email address associated with it etc etc.

Posts and threads would still remain though.
