Like many people, if I donate I would like to know what my contribution is going to do and help so I can at least know what is happening to the money I offer and that I can get something out of it because of that.

It came down to the fact that Ben is putting in thousands more than is coming out, put the thread was a bit argumentitive.

I would still like to know what the donations go toward though...

basically it comes down to the forum costs more to run than we get donations so its costing ben money

it goes toward sever cost that is huge now we on an all singing all dancing server with another band width to send your granny on holiday to austrailer(sp) atm the fee from adds n donations are about £700 a year short, iirc to what ben pays out a year

so a roundabout figure per annum would be...

I just want to donate accordingly and sensibly.

Dunno about FF, but a dedicated server with a decent spec and a decent amount of bandwidth is generally about £100 per month. Plus VAT. Plus Ben uses non-free software, so there are those costs too.

Just give what you can, from £2 to £30 you won't look silly or anything.

I'm not bothered about looking silly Paul. People can think of me as they please. I just want to play a fair part.
I have took a guestimate of the number of members by 30xhowmany pages on the emembers list and halved this to account for inactive members and divided between the estimate costings that H (cheers) has given and assuming a lot of peeps wont donate and I do use a decent amount of bandwidth compared to possibly the average user, I will try and throw in about a tenner a year in the pot. I'll be donating next pay day.

I think it would be useful if the thread on this subject was not deleted this time as other members may find it helpful. Also may be suitable for sticky status too.
