Regionalised Sub Forums

Regionalised Sub Forums

The reason we can't do that is due to the way the forum adds events.

When you add one (in the events forum) - you aren't actually creating a thread, but a calendar item (in the events calendar). Once finished, this item is then copied to the events forum.

If we had multiple forums, we'd need multiple calendars - which would then mean the events map couldn't work as it can only read from one :(

At least, I seem to remember that was how it worked - I'll have another look this week.

It would be cool if it was possible.

On AlfaOwner its not just to discuss events, but event threads do end up the relevant regional section. Its used to discuss things in the local area, offers, getting to know local folks etc.

Sort of what the various regional clubs that have cropped up would need. e.g. Yorks Italia, North West Italian Car Club, Eastern Italia etc but obviously would be more visibile than using a group. (Or a facebook page).

Could add the popular countries too for example Greece, Italy, Poland etc.

Right, investigated - and yes, it is possible - but will it really be used that much?

I think it's worth investigating... -- if only because it was difficult, initially, to put together a list of 'locals' when I decided to try and get the Midlands group off the ground.... However, three caveats:

  1. Because I frequent most areas of the forum -- and not just those to do with Mk2 Puntos and Mk3 Pandas -- I soon discovered enough members who were in the same region, anyway.
  2. Then there's the "Build it and they will come" principle -- in that, once a thread was up, the word soon spread.
  3. Finally: quite a large proportion of members attending the first MI meet were from outside the region...!
So... maybe it might work; and maybe you might find that others aren't that bothered... -- which probably means that this post hasn't really been that helpful....

I'm guessing from my dealing with Vbulletin that its not too much hassle to do.

What about a trial with North West, Midlands, Greater London/South East and Yorkshire they seem to be popular areas for meets and locally related discussion.

I like this idea i suggested a similar thing ages ago ,

I thnk That it would be good for example north west chat we could talk about orginising meets , have crack ect, then once something is set in stone , Go to the meets section and put it up for every one else to see , and for it to appear on the callander

Zsoc has a simlar set up , with regonalised sections of the forum , and it seems to make the sections know the Goupe of people in that section who may not know each outher for example im always in the cento section and there might be some one in the stilo section who lives close and id never know
