This should be part of your UserCP - check out the 'subscription' options

Thanks Stu DemonD, it isn't as easy as it seems, nowhere can I find any reference to "activate email notifications" or anything similar. There is a lot of 'programmer language' used in the Forum which is undecipherable to me. Thanks anyway.

Under Default Thread Subscription Mode, select the option you want.
I have Instant Email Notification.
