Post Editing

Post Editing

Lets say someone signs up and posts a link to their website selling stuff.
(At current) A mod will edit it but unless the user goes and re-reads his posts he won't notice. Then the second/third time the user does it he gets a PM with attitude saying that they should have noticed the first time.

(It's after 8pm and I'm tired so apologies if I don't make much sense.) :p

It's just not feasible for post edits, so many are made (for various reasons - could just be a spelling mistake) that it would be chaos if alerts were sent all the time.

Using that example though - if someone posted a link to sell stuff on their website, they would be pm'd anyway with trader rates.

Could it not work in the same way as likes/dislikes/thanks/quotes though? They happen all the time?

Okay rephrase: A link to their website (company) not necessarily e-commerce site.

in the old days a friendly pm was sent same time as edit

I'm sure this has been discussed before, if a mod isn't PMing or otherwise informing the user whose post they've edited why they've done it, then they're doing it wrong as far as I'm aware.
Not being totally familiar with the system I'm going to assume that you'd probably get auto-notified of all edits to your posts, even those you make yourself, which would get annoying. The edits themselves are manual so the notification to the user should form part of that manual process.

It has, that's the past, please don't drag it back up and get this thread locked too...

It could work the same way the the thanks/like/quote number at the top though couldn't it?

I think if a post within a thread is changed by a mod then the user deserves to know why. but thats why i thought mods often add in the "Reason for edit"

If its a misplaced thread then it doesnt matter aslong as it gets to the right area (y)

Yeah but surely if the new user goes back to the section they posted in and can't find their thread they could post another, then get a PM with attitude for not knowing where their original thread's gone.
