Hi,

Basically, the auto logout function within this forum is starting to annoy me :(

when trying to type a long post or guide, for example, when it comes round to finally pressing 'post' my account has been logged out and therefore I receieve the message 'you do not have permission to post on this page'.

Following this, all data typed is lost.

Obviously text can be copied onto a text document and pasted back in, but that's only a workaround.

Anyone else have this issue, or am i just complaining at nothing?

Sam

It serves no purpose on the work laptop due to internet settings being stored on a central server. Everytime the browser is closed everything is deleted i.e. temporary internet files, history etc.

Same with my home pc, I have it set to wipe most stuff.

Is this just something i'd have to live with then unless I chose to change some settings?

Its not a problem, just thought id bring it up and see what answers I get as not everybody wants to tick 'remember me'

Assuming the forum software on here works the same as most other sites, then if you don't tick the box it would just set a "session" cookie - so it remembers your details until you close the browser, at which point the cookie expires.
If you tick remember me, it would set an expiry date on the cookie, which is independent of the browser opening and closing.
So even if your settings etc. are stored centrally and cleared when you log off, ticking the box would help, allowing you to close and reopen the browser if you need to. (This is assuming everything clears when you log off the machine, not when the browser is closed)

i see what you're saying.

the problem is, why doesn't the software pick up 'key strokes' as activity? Instead, if you've been writing a guide for 40 minutes, it sees them 40 minutes as inactivity (i believe) and logs you off accordingly. Obviously, if 'remember me' is ticked, it will not log the person off, but then again, why should it if I'm writing a post?

For example, natwest will log a person off after 10 minutes of uniterupted inactivity, if i move the mouse, that timer is reset.

its not a big problem and I have learnt to copy long posts into docs so i dont lose them, just sometimes I don't and it get's annoying lol

btw the forum is excellent and one of the smoothest and easiest to use, I just wondered about this :)

its safer this way, stops people using public computers getting their accounts hacked. if you are clicking the remember me and still get logged out then the problem is at your end

if you right a 40 minute guide/post open a new tap and log in on that then submit your guide
