A scrimping thread?

A place for people to share ideas about how they saved money. Example: I had some old trees in my back garden and I wanted to get rid of them but didnt have the money to get someone in. So I posted pictures of them on Gumtree and offered them free to the person who wanted to come and cut them down. Two days later a guy came, cut them down into logs for his wood burner and took them away. I passed the info onto neighbourhood watch and he has now been back to cut trees down for the neighbours. Everyone was happy and no cash was spent

As well as Gumtree, in the UK there is Freegle, else worldwide there is Freecycle where you can do similar things.
Offer trees etc for people with woodburners (but not fences coated with preservatives please), get people to come and take away your old telly, wardrobe, sofa, anything.

Likewise if your after something yourself you can ask on those groups.

For instance I wanted an old water cistern, got one straight away from someone that had one in the shed. I have seen cars, caravans, conservatories and most everything else given away.

Very useful if you want to have a spring clearout, you only have to give away your old stuff and someone will come and take it away. Saves all the hassle of ebay and trips to the dump.
