as there are now forums for punto (1993-2006) the grande punto and punto Evo fiat have gone on to cause potential future confusion by going back to just 'punto' with the latest model

would it be helpful to move all the punto named forums together in the listing as at the moment grande is away from the others, and maybe a new forum for the new punto model or club together the grande evo and new version as they are all similar cars?

any other thoughts ?

Thinking about this - we're going to keep hitting this issue.

Renaming a forum is actually a *massive* deal, as all the Google links will then be wrong and it will take a couple of weeks to right itself (during which time, the forum will be dropped).

I'm thinking to start using slugs instead - in that, the forum name can be different to the URL. And in the future, we change the forum name, it doesn't matter - as the links won't change.

The thing is though, we know what the mk1 mk2 and mk2b - BUT - what is a mk3, is that a Grande? So a mk4 is an Evo, with a mk5 being this years? Or is an Evo a different name, so not a mk - which makes the 2012 a mk4??

The point I was trying to originally make is that the confusion comes from people constantly posting in the 'punto' section when they have a 'grande punto' basically they see punto and post there

The new model is basically an evo so in all fairness they belong together, but that means you'll have 3 punto sections one of which is steperated from the others (hence the confusion) what happens in the future when the current punto style comes to an end and fiat launch a completly new model? Is there then a 4th punto section?

The model list is pretty long as it is it can't help to keep adding to it but would be beneficial to try an reduce it now rather than in the future.

At the very least the forum software must allow you to reorder the forums so that grande appears beside the others in the list?

The more forums the more confusion and the more moderation required.

It's always better to be proactive about things which could become potentially huge problems in the future

I don't think that's such a big problem, at least not one the mod team have been alerted about before.

But yes, if a new Punto is released, then a MK6 or whatever forum would be made. The model list length doesn't really matter - we have as many forums as there are models ....

Nah, the Grande is definitely the G3 - I can find enough press releases about that :) The 2b was just a facelift of a 2.

FIAT press releases also confirm the Evo is the successor to the GP - making it a 4 - and the 2012 is next, so it has to be a 5.

Actually for what I'm trying to acheive at the moment, this doesn't matter too much - nothing else needs to be renamed - and if we find this elusive g5 in the future, it's just one mis-named url

Punto /punto (mk1, mk2, mk2b)
Grande Punto /grande-punto (mk3)
Punto Evo /punto-evo (mk4)
Punto 2012 /punto-v (mk5)

Next year, when the 2012 is established - we can rename it to just "Punto" and the Punto forum will become the Punto (Classic)

In the mean time everyone with a grande can continue to post in the wrong section, seeing as grande is no where near the other punto forums !?
But a Grande begins with G - which people will see before P.

It used to be the other way around (Punto Grande) - but everyone complained they couldn't find it! 11k threads can't be too wrong...

Also updated the forum descriptions with the MK numbers, so it's a bit more obvious :)

It is of the punto family!

People seem to continuously scroll down list to punto see 1993 - present and post in that forum as the only other (visible) option (when scrolled to that part of the page) is evo

That what follows is "my 2007 punto doesn't work" generally followed by a "try posting in the right section then!!!!" inevitably they don't eventually the post gets moved but the new member has had a bad experience and doesn't come back

They are all fiat puntos in one way or another and if it was a stupid idea to put all the forums together in the listings then I would drop it but it really isn't a stupid idea! It would make the forum look neater and not like everything is just thown in at the will of the forum software as previously stated you should be able to reorder without renaming PhpBB was able to do this 8 years ago!

I really can't see why it's such a crap idea
