Right, after being moaned at for advertising when my first post was deleted I came up with an idea.

It seems the Mods rely on us users actually looking at our previous posts to see if they've been edited.

As I quote from Custard's PM:
You may not post the contents of private messages to the forum without the previous consent of the creator.

No custard, I don't look at my previous posts every few days to check if they've not been edited or deleted, and I doubt any other user does it either.

So how's about a system where FF sends a PM to a user where their posts are edited/changed/deleted?

no I edited your 1st
when you missed that,I followed it up with a PM
however you now have my attention

1st rule
You may not post the contents of private messages to the forum without the previous consent of the creator.
2nd rule
Public posts debating these rules and/or moderators' enforcement of such, will be removed without comment. We encourage feedback however and invite you to use our help desk if you have any questions or concerns.
3rd rule
Trade Advertising
For any trade user to be able to post in the classifieds, put an advert in their signature/avatar or post to the traders area they MUST sign up for a trader account - details of which can be found here. A user MAY NOT post links or recommendations to themselves UNLESS they have signed up as an official trader - and even then, MAY NOT spam the forum with posts. The amount of posts which constitutes spam is entriely up to the moderator discretion.

1) Out of interest why was this thread locked then opened?

2) Could you link me to both of my posts? I only seem to be able to find one.

3) Appologies for posting the contents of your PM, I didn't realise it was against the rules.

4) Did you edit or delete my 1st post? You can't have done both.;)

you would since I deleted the other
3) Appologies for posting the contents of your PM, I didn't realise it was against the rules. regardless, why would you think posting the contents of a private message is appropriate?

are you struggling with this? I edited the 1st,deleted the 2nd

If you wish I can siimply throw some points your way
Do you see others posting their companies over the forum?
no. you simply decided to do it
you got a PM and decided to rant about it
you decided to post the contents of a PM
even now you are somehow trying to question what I did

That's not how I read his post custard, I read it as a very simple request to notify users via PM of any occasion when moderators/admin have edited a post and the reason why. Seems like a reasonable request to me.

which i often do

however as it was my PC (well Opera) was pissing about at the time
so I simply edited the post
now for the final time
he got his PM
no official warnings,no infractions
well for the ads

and just so we are clear. the rules are there.
we don't have to tell members
they are on every single page of FF at the bottom
PMs are a courtesy

but there are ways to ask, having a thread title like this is a bit provoking

it was a good idea in the thread i think its been brought up before though, maybe op should ask for this thread to be binned then start again, nice and friendly  forums has been upgraded loads maybe its just a box ben has to tick now to make this happen

I think you're still slightly missing the point, the posting of your PM and any further 'advertising' could have possibly been avoided by an automated system, whereby when you've modified the post and entered a reason why, the user is automatically notified of this, meaning that you don't have to worry if Opera is being rubbish. Plus, the amount of moderating you do, its gotta be able to save you at least a couple of hours a day writing PM's ;)

I'd rather you didn't, I'm not being unreasonable, just wanting to discuss it really. No I don't but didn't realise I couldn't, sorry.

1) Okay, thanks for the explanation.:)
2) I'll give up on this one for now because I'm not allowed to say what you put in the PM.
3) Because it was part of my explanation for some sort of notification system.
4) Same as 2.

I just think it would be a nice idea for members to know when they've done something wrong so that we don't repeat it and get to this stage.

Hopefully it's something Ben can do easily.:)

well not really

sometimes I edit something to simply correct, fix or remove something
if it requires it,I will usually PM the member or deal with them via infraction if its that sort of thing (sometimes I dont have time, forget or as yesterday dealt with it quickly)
PMs are a required part of the process.
auditable
In a years time if dombooth decides to start advertising again.I'll know(or any other mod) that he knows ads are not allowed (and it does happen)
I think people see the mods dishing out infractions,PMs etc as a daily event
it really isnt

now answer me this
If you set up a business
would you see it as something you could stat advertising on the forum?

oh and once again. this little tantrum was about a PM
no official warnings,no infraction points (or even the mention of them)

I wasn't advertising on purpose.. It didn't even cross my mind lol.

This isn't a 'tantrum'.. Just wanted to know why etc.

when someone posts PC problems
someone replies saying drop it in with a link to their site
how would you read that?
If you wanted to know why
you could have asked
you didnt
you posted this thread

(Don't take this the wrong way, it's a question, not an argument.)

Did I reply to someone posting PC problems?

no,I just made it up
of course, otherwise why would you be posting it?..............

I posted "I've only been open 7 weeks and had two emails asking for jobs lol." in the smile thread.
Someone replied asking what I did (deleted).
So I replied with what I did (deleted).

I then (unknowing that the first one was deleted) asked in the FF playing up thread - "I'm fine at the shop, no hangs or anything but I do get the occasional hang at home.

Sam, I know you live nearish, do you know Kiveton Park by any chance?"
To which he replied - "Dom, yes i do mate why?"
To which my reply was deleted.
(I was asking if he wanted to come for a chat/meet, not to fix his computer.)

Could you link me to the PC issue I replied to and where I said "drop it in" please?
