Not sure how feasible this is, but text alerts, when somebody has wrote back to your post, would be helpful.

Its not a major issue to keep coming back and checking the site, but for those of us without smartphones, booting up the laptop/pc to check the site is a bit of a bummer when you have no replies.

Just an idea,

cost, it will cost per message to each user...

Im presuming you would only mean to each subscribed thread.. if you posted on the Grumpy thread you would get hundreds of messages...

Unless you chose to turn on SMS updates? Like subscribing to the thread so you have to actually choose the thread instead of it doing it automatically.
 
Plus we would all appreciate that txt message that wakes us up in the middle of the night when someone posts on your topic you created 5 years ago!
