There are seperate sections on the site to talk about ICE, Bodywork, Satellite Navigation, Security etc. but there's no specific section for those that like to tune/modify their cars to swop idea's, info and show off their creations. I know many on here(myself included) consider Blue Neons and dustbin sized exhaust pipes a waste of time but many others like these things so how about we give them an area to play in, might visit it myself if some serious tuners use the area(remaps, turbo upgrades etc.). Many modifications are universal and not model specific so I think a Tuning & Modifying section would be benificial to like minded members.

Do you think the site should have a Tuning & Modifying section.

1. Yes
2. No
3. Don't Care.

there is no prefix in the tuning section

the way i read it is tunning is to enhance performance which includes:

breathing mods (intake and exhaust)

internal engine tuning modifications (pistons etc)

gas flow (inlet diameter, inlet valves and re-maps)

rebores, pistons

sport computer tuning (re-mapping, chipping and flashing)

port matching (port matching adjust the diameter of the exhaust and inlet ports to match the profile on the manifolds which is nearly always bigger)

camshafts

forced air induction (turbo charger)

fueling (injectors and fuel pump)

Performance brakes and/or suspension

All of which have to be done in the correct way for the car in question or it can reduce power.

That's how i read it please i'm trying to understand this so correct me if i am wrong.

Everything you said is correct and should come under the heading of Tuning.

would it not be better doing it by intent of the thread - if someone is making a modification with the intention of enhancing the performance

Except lowering lowers the center of gravity and can help handling at tje expense of ride quality. sometimes anyway sometimes it doesnt.
Oi you! Stoppit - this is hard enough as it is :p

Ok - well done, we did it!

I'll get Neeny's post put in the "Welcome to Tuning" sticky - and this is what I will follow for threads in the tuning forum, as well as what the mods will follow for deciding what prefix is used in the models section (y)

well you better check it for spelling and grammar first.:p:eek:(y)

Its best you post in the Tuning section and hope Ben gives us the model specific prefixes so the search function can search them. At the moment the search function will not search the prefixed threads linked to the Tuning forum and Ben can't find a way around it.

um because you would be searching in the model section
otherwise you would be searching in the tuning section. wasnt that your whole issue at the start?

custard can i just ask do you know if Ben is making the tuning section with model specific prefixes like MM?

that's how we wanted it but bed did it back to front

ive spoken to some of the leaders in panda tuning and they have told me a general tuning section would have helped them no end when they was the first to do things on a panda, save them hours of searching multi sections

Well hopefully Ben puts the prefixes in when he gets the time. And give a little time and help i'm sure all the moderators will have there prefixes sorted in they're sections so that it doesn't look as confusing as it does now.

Dave you of all people know that when a new section is created it doesn't look like every other section over night it takes time. So hopefully everyone will give the staff the time and help it will take to get this section up to scratch and i just hope that it's worth all the effort and upset it has caused.(y)

Dave... there's no determination to "kill it off before its even got off the ground." We just don't know what should go in there. (well I don't anyway) It probably doesn't help that I don't know anything about tuning.

ben asked what goes in in we tell him better handling mods like suspension and brake up grades ( easy way to tell an upgrade, will it need to be told to insurance)

then a mod comes on and says we dont want them in it, so now we dont know if we are being asked or told what our tuning section is going to be for, as for the work that's bens fault, we wanted it the other way around threads in tuning section prefixed to model if people wanted their thread to show in their model section.
he said there wouldn't be room, but auction watch could have gone to make way for it.

it would make life easier if people who voted no to a tuning section now stayed out of this thread let ben talk to them that wanted it, sort out how its going to work then when he has done that he can explain to the rest of his staff what to do, to get it right its going to take more than a few days as everyone who voted for it isn't on line every day.

Ok, I've gone through all the forums without mods and set the tuning prefixes accordingly - the other sections will be done as and when the mods get online (y)

As for the reverse prefixes, it's counter intuitive - most users who come on here go straight to their model section and post. So this way around is the better way. It makes searching slightly more cumbersome (you need to do it from the advanced search box) - but that's the only limitation :)

Dave please stop nit picking every little thing that's said, it's getting tiresome.

After a few tries i'm sure Ben will get working in a way that suits everyone.

And as for it taking days to find out what tunning is took me approximately 5 mins and a google search to find out the specifics of tunning which helped.

It's not just moderators that are here to help normal members can too. So instead of just criticizing what everyone says try being helpful. it takes less muscles to smile than frown you know :p

I have good news - I've found a way!

I've got to go to bed soon, so not sure if it will be done today - but I can see how it should be done :)

its the mods who was picking holes in my ideas and suggestions

i didn't say it would take days to find out what tuning is, i said it would take days to get a fair opinion from people who are not on every day, to see what they would like to see in their tuning section.

Not to go off topic - but why would they be doing that? All they needed to do was a forum search against the Tuning prefix.

Anyway, everyone's got what they want now - so show me this was all worth it and start filling the new section up!

they started before prefix, then some stuff is under wrong prefix and some of it in mm,

a guide to get the best from search would help too, ive tried things people have said in the past for getting a group of words together but they have never worked, end up with 1000 results none fitting what i was looking for, a lot of members are good with spanners but not with a pc. and there are a lot who have less of a clue than me as has been pointed out before.

Not quite but its deffinately a good start, thank you Ben. :worship:

Many FF members have found it necessary to source/supply tuning info on other forums, if the new tuning forum can convince FF members it doesn't have the bad atitude towards tuning anymore and to stop posting in other forums(this one for example http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/tuning-and-upgrades) and to use the FF tuning forum instead I'm sure the rewards would benefit everyone here, MODs and normal members alike. Please lets make this work, if we can achieve half what the Alfa forum has thats Fiat related I'll be impressed, the info it contains is brilliant. Come on guys, put the petty squabbles aside now and pull together to better the forum for us all.
