to be honst i think this forum should upgrade the file sizes for avatars, sig's and personal pictures seeing as 17kb is maximum for a avatar is kinda pointless seeing as most jpeg images standard size is 23kb even with a compression ratio of 4 it still wouldnt get into the 17kb standards...

you have restrictions so users dont go crazy on massive file sizes but you could atleast put a 300kb limit, i mean no one is using dial-up these days.. everyone has broad-band of at least upto 20meg, your forum wont load much slower if you upgrade the sizes the maths behind this is

15 posts per page roughly
so if 15 posts had max file size of avatar (being 50kb)
so avatar 15 x 50kb = 750kb
sig 15 x 300kb = 4500kb(4.3mb)

so total each page would be roughly 5.12mb but that is if everyone has the max file size avatar and max file size sig...

anyway more conclusively to my point those file sizes are to small for someone who is wanting to upload a decent picture with some quality to it...


please consider making the file size slightly larger my examples above where over exaggerated to point out a max page load...

I have just moved in with the GF and the service she buys here is 10Mb - to say 20Mb is the basic standard is well, mmm, just guessing.

Saying that, VM are installing 50Mb tomorrow - I missed it too much :eek:

As for server hosting, Ben has that covered already :)

Maybe donated members get larger avatars :chin:

Stu, this is what I get with Virgin 50MB. (y) Shame that upload speed isn't that good. (n)

I know what the 50Mb service offers, I have had it since launch at my old house :)

I only moved on Saturday to my new place, which has 10Mb - hence why I am missing it - they are coming out tomorrow to upgrade here. Sorted :D

PS still not as good as the dedi server I run, as per sig :slayer:
 
Does anyone else get the feeling the guy that started this thread is just trying to be a salesman =P ... at 1st i thought he actually had a general complaint, but it has occured to me he just wants business ... anyone else get that impression?

no i dont want buisness i only wanted the sig and avatar sizes to be upscared abit so i could upload my sig and avatar :)
if i wanted buisness then i would be posted around on sites such as freelancer...

I'll second that Stu. I spend a fair bit of time out of the home, so do a fair bit of browsing on my phone, when i can get a 3G signal that is (y)

Edit: What about people who live in the country and people who live far away from their nearest exchange? End of the line feeling!
