Ben, with the comments that have been going on recently about the Leisure Lounge, is it possible to give the creator of the thread the ability to delete it??

That way, as it doesnt really have any historical usefulness, it could be disposed of creating more space on the server once it has run its course.

Just an idea.

That would be a bad bad idea smurfhead, you need all the threads archived for searching reasons etc.

I think the author should have permission to delete a thread without having to go through a mod. However, I don't think the server move is capacity related.....the only reason to be able to delete a thread is if you feel it's more trouble than it's worth.

As we said though, in the Leisure Lounge, after a period of time the threads can probably be deemed as useless, therefore expire, therefore no search required. Surely if they are useful, they can be turned in to a sticky.

I think deleting your own threads would be okay, if it seems to be going down hill. Or maybe locking it when it has run its course
I am of the opinion this should be left to mods - once a thread is started, and people have posted on it, then that thread should run it's course. Only if it goes pear-shaped should it be then locked or deleted.

Remember, the thread-starter could always request a lock via 'report to moderator'.

AND anyone can report a post - this should be used more actively once a thread has started to go OT, say.

Hmmm, maybe :D - but the idea is to moderate the forum, not let other people make that decision that may affect others.

I wish more people used it - tbh, the biggest users of it are moderators themselves, which sounds silly I know.

I will set John_K onto you, so watch out?! :D

LL is only moderated for anti-social, etc, content.
Moderators will not interfere with LL posts for any other reason without first being requested to do so.
The principle of letting the originator delete the thread sounds reasonable and would free the mods up to moderate posts.

Comment please.

Personally, I am not struck on the idea. As an example, the 'test' thread started by Adamski - now hitting 1400 posts - still going strong, albeit a bit spammy. BUT Adamski can delete 1400 posts just like that?! Hmmm.

NOW if someone complained about it, then action could be taken.
