I'm expecting a ban for this, but...

Why is there no access control on ePER? Its entirely (possible) probable that its being used by people who arent actively contributing to the forum.

I wouldnt mind if it were on an unlimited bandwidth server, but its not, and its us thats losing out!

you see its a software limitation

How about a moderator starting a poll on this and see what people want? i.e. donated only or anybody.

If the only way of restricting it is by donated members, then it is worth doing in my opinion (and that is from someone that hasn't donated...).

Currently, with it open to the entire Internet, it is very unlikely that any members can get in to it.

IMO it would be very difficult to restrict to donated members only, which is mmaybe why it hasnt been done?

One you get past the login page to the eper there is nothing stopping anyone passing the link around. Only thing you could maybe do is change the server port every now and then to keep people on their toes.

Alternatively, download it. If you look around its about, I got Ed52 last week and have had a server running Ed 50 for a few friends. The links are usually on rapidshare and the like

Good news - I have a (theoretical) solution to permanently solve all eper problems and make it run super fast.

I'll start working on it in the next 2 weeks when I get back to Bangkok, but in the meantime I need your help.

I need a screen grab of every possible error screen you ever see to be attached to this thread. (obviously if it's been posted before, I don't need it again) and also the URL that is displayed in the address bar at the time.

I'm going to basically build a massive caching system - so that every page you request will be pulled from this instead of the ePER directly. If the page doesn't exist in cache, then the ePer system will be called and then cached.

This is why I need a list of all the possible error messages - so the cache engine will know it hasn't also been denied access (and thus won't cache the output).

Not only will this dramatically increase the speed, but it also means we can use the latest ePer disks too (y)

It's not quite running as hoped - it's being absolutely hammered now, and has fallen over a few times. This was kinda expected though, but the way it works now is, the longer it runs (regardless of how often it crashes) - the more stable it becomes.

There are a few more things I can do, but v54 will be required for a few more of the tricks.

Also, if I remove the shopping cart feature, this helps a lot .... it depends how many people want to use it.

Best try again in a few minutes. In the meantime, flog ye olde cabin boy and have some more rum.
