Access in the evening

Whether at uni or at home the Forum slows right down for me in the evening, it gets so annoying, i.e. having to wait 30-40 seconds for the reply box to show. The rest of the net is fine for me, just FF that majorly slows down and only in the evening.

Stu says this isn't the case for him, is it for anybody else or am I just weird?

Sometimes, the access to this site can go on a real go-slow....BUT hard to actually pin-point to a specific time of day!

Sometimes I just drop the DSL connection, and relog on with a new IP - seems to do the trick.

if i use ie its very slow an no pics but with opera is ok i think.

Quick for me well just as quick as any other site, not that I'm probably logged on @ FF as much as I should be to notice, but as of now its quick.

a few things maybe....

alot of member signature pics will slow a forum down, due to size and connecting to remote hosting.

make a note of the times its slow for you and ask admin to check server logs for traffic volume.

That's it though, it's always the evening, every evening, be it on the 8mbit or so Uni connection or home 300K cable connection. As I had been at uni when it started happening to me, I just assumed uni traffic was slowing it down but not it happens at home too, from maybe 6pm until at least 10pm everyday. The pics etc. never pose a problem during other times of the day.

Well I guess it's just me and not the fault of the forum, weird.

Ok it's quicker but no way can I use that. I like it as it is, grrr, why is it like this?!

Basically the whole page loads reasonably quickly with the pictures coming slowly but the reply box doesn't appear for ages. If I click reply before that time, it opens the advanded editor which I hate using.

I'm on dial-up at home at it seems to run at the same speed all the time, ie, painfully slow...

Last week I discovered that the forum did load a lot faster in the daytime than at night. I do now load pictures but I repeat my suggestion that turning off pictures or changing them to cached only will speed it up and takes less than half the time to load. Only a one click jobbie to turn them back on if you wish to view something.

I dont think its a bandwidth issue. I think its down to the actual server. Everytime you click something, the server has to parse a php script and your broswer can't start loading the page till that happens.

At times of peak useage, the server could be getting a little bogged down with requests and so takes a lil longer

interesting. i've never noticed a slow down at all.. will keep a look out in future.

However 7pm here is 1pm in the states where the server is, so hitting lunch time traffic...?

TBH i havent noticed a thing but i am on dial up - so the forum is always slow for me
