why not split the post count ??? to posts in the car questions sections and to posts in other

Gaz the main problem with people overly spamming was to boost thier post counts, so take the counts away then rids the pointless spam or reduces it at least, with the rep system the moderators can give good and bad rep but the LL is relaxed anyway so dont worry about that

As I have just pointed out to Sammi on MSN, the only problem for us Brava/ o users would be that the mod who would dish out our rep would appear to be dead.....or asleep for 500 years.........or something.

as far as i am aware any mod can give rep to any forum, i suppose if you feel a particular thread/post is helpful you could pm any mod with details of it and if they see fit can give rep but its early stages and needs further discussing

but also if you find that spam isnt going down at all will post counts come back and if so will they go back to were they were or to 0 ?

i assume that if post counts make a return they will return to where they were as they are still counted and stored (just not made a big deal of heh) plus if they returned to zero there would be another influx of posters as everyone tries to become/stay top poster

one question i was going to ask actually was will previous advice be taken into account or will it be a case of starting fresh?

yeah exxcellent question. as i never just chat or spam on here except for this thread lol nearly all my 500+ posts were to do with helping people. im sure its same for others also.

@ ghost i think it will be as of now, it would take too long to go through old posts and give rep, but if poeple are genrally helpful anyway then this shouldnt be a problem for them to gain rep

By the looks of it, only mods/admin can give out rep! BUT if you feel a user deserves some rep, PM the mod of that forum, and point them towards that post with your reasons

this idea is worse that i thought hardly anyone is going to even bother pm ing a mod especially new people who have just started and wont know how it all works. plus you mods are going to be busy if you do get lots of pm's

well lets just give it a try shall we the system has only been up for less than a day so we need to give it chance, if it keeps us mods busy then so be it

Lets face it the reason the rep didnt work before was because i was top and contributed nothing to the forum car wise.

I'm not going to say its a good thing the post count has gone because i dont think it is.

We'll see how this goes but i, like others dont like the fact you cant see how active a person is on the forum and therefore know if they've possibly come across the problem before so know the answer.

You can still see how active someone is by clicking on their public profile

But that takes time, you cant see at a glance.

The best solution I can come up with is simple.

Posts in the Leisure Lounge shouldn't count towards the post count.

If the moderators cracked down on posts on the rest of the forum and kept a firm grip on nonsense then the problem is gone...

I don't think that is possible Steve, it has already been mentioned backstage.

It is possible. I am a moderator on an Irish car forum which has a section called the Car Park. Posts here don't count towards the tally and people can basically post what they like within reason. The rest of the forum is properly moderated. This forum uses VB as well.
