Re: Vanished.....

Its a shame this has had to be removed too, in essence it is a good thing, new users can see at a glance who is a regular, trolls like Samico & Roger are easier to spot, whereas now they stand a chance of being taken more seriously.

But, there is always going to be a competetive element to it, perhaps though it should be kept a bit more to yourself, not discussed sooo much, if it is your burning ambition to be top poster, fine, but just don't make a big thing about it, and especially don't go on about the rate at which you need to pass everyone etc, it just shows you are posting for posting sake, which is pure Spam

Re: Vanished.....

I do agree James. Although in answer to your question Sam I don't have a problem with the amount of Spam on the forum, mind you I don't read all the threads. Also I don't think taking away the post count will actually affect the amount of "spam".

Spam...

I think it will, a few people have been spamming on here a lot lately, with the clear intention of increasing their post count

Re: Spam...

I have never made a point about my post count!

Mine has just crept up gradually since I joined, and because I tend to have a great deal of access time to the FF [from about 8am til 5pm @ work, then in evenings, although tends to be in spurts now], and this is on a daily basis, then obviously my post count reflects that. Plus having two 'problematic' cars means I contribute to two car forums

BUT when you look at average number of posts per day, I am nowhere near the top. PLUS I don't make a song n dance about being top poster, unless I hit a milestone and a thread is started congratulating me, lol.

Post counts can still be accessed, just a question of looking at the person's public profile.

However, something needs to be done to show 'new' users how valued a member is - the reputation got abused before [although Samico did end up with a black dot the day it was removed, ha ha].

Re: Spam...

I have a lot of access to the forum as well in work, hence my posts count. I'll be continuing as normal. I've posted on at least 3 occasions in the last week that post count is irrelevant. We do need a way to distinguish the regulars from the non-regulars though.

Re: Vanished.....

One thing to consider, is that although probably intended, this has ended up a very personal forum, by that, I mean people come on here to discus their lives as well as their cars.

Now some members are able to give good technical advise, whilst others are understanding and able to advise others on a personal level, maybe we need a way of acknowledging a members contribution to each of these?

That way we could not only get an indication of the regulars, but also who is here for pure technical talk, and who is here for the crack, or both?

Re: Vanished.....

I dont think there should be a half way thing here. Either all post counts should be removed (from the profiles aswell) or it should be kept. I think that even some people spam threads for post counts, it all adds to the individuality of this froum.

Removing the post count will make it harder for new forum members to trust the advise they're given. I like post counts, if they are going to go, we should have something like titles given to people with different amounts' of posts. Or maybe bring back the rep system and have it moderated?

Joe

Re: Vanished.....

I'd think it would be better if moderators could either lock a thread if it starts to go off topic, or delete off topic posts. If the posts are deleted then it would stop post counts rising. And if the threads are locked then it stops anyone spamming it with more off topic crap...

Just an idea

Re: Vanished.....

I've just noticed the rep is back!

I've personally never given a damn about my post count BUT it does make a difference on how much I respect somebody else's viewpoint.

Can we get one thing straight, are people welcome to use this forum for all things or JUST car things with a little bit of LL in the mix? If the latter, maybe some of us should start our goodbyes?

Re: Vanished.....

ooo you guys are sharp

the rep is to be given by mods and admin only, they can give good and bad rep, this is to show how well people contribute to the forum etc
