Re: Spam...

I have never made a point about my post count!

Mine has just crept up gradually since I joined, and because I tend to have a great deal of access time to the FF [from about 8am til 5pm @ work, then in evenings, although tends to be in spurts now], and this is on a daily basis, then obviously my post count reflects that. Plus having two 'problematic' cars means I contribute to two car forums :)

BUT when you look at average number of posts per day, I am nowhere near the top. PLUS I don't make a song n dance about being top poster, unless I hit a milestone and a thread is started congratulating me, lol.

Post counts can still be accessed, just a question of looking at the person's public profile.

However, something needs to be done to show 'new' users how valued a member is - the reputation got abused before [although Samico did end up with a black dot the day it was removed, ha ha].

One thing to consider, is that although probably intended, this has ended up a very personal forum, by that, I mean people come on here to discus their lives as well as their cars.

Now some members are able to give good technical advise, whilst others are understanding and able to advise others on a personal level, maybe we need a way of acknowledging a members contribution to each of these?

That way we could not only get an indication of the regulars, but also who is here for pure technical talk, and who is here for the crack, or both?

I dont think there should be a half way thing here. Either all post counts should be removed (from the profiles aswell) or it should be kept. I think that even some people spam threads for post counts, it all adds to the individuality of this froum.

Removing the post count will make it harder for new forum members to trust the advise they're given. I like post counts, if they are going to go, we should have something like titles given to people with different amounts' of posts. Or maybe bring back the rep system and have it moderated?

Joe

I'd think it would be better if moderators could either lock a thread if it starts to go off topic, or delete off topic posts. If the posts are deleted then it would stop post counts rising. And if the threads are locked then it stops anyone spamming it with more off topic crap...

Just an idea

I've just noticed the rep is back!

I've personally never given a damn about my post count BUT it does make a difference on how much I respect somebody else's viewpoint.

Can we get one thing straight, are people welcome to use this forum for all things or JUST car things with a little bit of LL in the mix? If the latter, maybe some of us should start our goodbyes?

So what happens if we go upsetting mods and admin ;)
you bad :p

and paul; whilst this is a forum it is still mainly a fiat forum, hence only having one off topic section (ie leisure lounge) there are too many people joining the forum now whom come purely because its a forum not because its a fiat forum. It is a fiat forum and should remain so, however like you say it should be for other things too, but at the moment to be completely honest its stupid, theres more posts being made per day in the leisure lounge than in the rest of the forum put together. which is not how it should be imo

note this is purely my two cents :)

Ben...

I see you're bigging yourself up on the old rep eh?

So we not going to see a return of post counts?

Is it me or has there been less spam today?

You are right Ghost, we also have a few new members with no interest in Fiat who simply want to start fights, which is worse still.

I agree with losing the post count (y)
Ive come on here recently and mistaken it for a chat room! Threads usually start with a topic that most people can get involved with- thats fine, but after the first couple of pages they turn into a competition of 'who can post the most' between two or three people.

One idea...

with the rep, shouldn't we all be able to read why each others rep was given? That way newbies will be able to get an idea of who may be able to help with a particular problem.
