Why doesn't the New Posts page refresh automatically anymore?

If you have a posh browser like Opera (presumably Mozilla does this too) set it to auto-refresh every minute or whatever.

I don't think Mozilla can do this, yet.... if anyone knows hows- plz share with me.

Opera was too hard for me to use. :(

f5 won't refresh it, it'll always give you the same set of results. You need to click the 'New Posts' link for the latest:

Reason:

New Posts link runs the search engine
Search engine runs (in background) and is given a results number
Search display shows result set (results number)
Hence hitting refresh will always return the same results... :)

Purely for the reason above.

Ok, search result returns:

post 1
post 2
post 3

Refresh will only ever return those posts in that order, but WILL show the latest post by each one (which is they'll sometimes be in the wrong order).

It's basically due to this:

Get New Posts = search.php?do=getnew <-- this actually gets the search results and stores them in array X

which redirects you to:

search.php?searchid=X (where X is the post array)

So hitting F5 will only ever refresh the array, NOT get any new threads.

I don't use the new posts thing, I just got into each section as I please, if I have minimised FF and have went surfing in another window I'd press F5 or click on "forum" on my return to show who's just posted.

This works ok for me as I rarely stray from the General and Cinq section.

Same here Liam the active topics thing is no good for me because I only look at Punto/Uno/Leisure Lounge plus Tempra and Ebay if I'm bored.

I use New Posts all the time :) - BUT it sometimes times out, so if I am away from the machine for any great length of time, I click on active users.

Obviously, not a major problem NOW that Ben has made New Posts with date options.
