As Gene Simmons says: "Well, it´s a dirty job but somebody has got to do it."

Some facts: I´m norwegian. This forum is english.

Still many posts are in a strange language. Example below:

"Thnx so much really appricate it good 2 o ppl still love a gud uno now a days thnx for advice ppl ne websites for those exhausts".

What kind of way is this to write? Shouldn´t school DE-teach things like this?

I guess the forum´s majority is from the UK, but some foreign members are active as well. We are willing to help and participate, but when it gets annoying to read a post, it may get ditched quickly and not answered.

So please write so it is possible to read.

I´m done now. :)

Sincerely, Morten.

Re: Ai..................................

This txtspk stuff is doing my head in now. On another forum I have seen a 'find and replace' system whereby when somebody types in 'm8' into a message it comes up as 'mate' once it is posted, and 'ya' becomes 'you' and so on and so forth so the message actually makes sense. Do you have this option here and if so, please can you turn it on before I start with the Ali G translator or similar.

Now thats an idea!

A mate of mine mod's on a 'cruise' forum, and they apparently have a auto-txtspk filter (eg: it automatically filters the posts). Its apparently quite amsuing

I think it's a first. Well done cinqmeister :D

I am against text speak. Going back to the original poster (remember that?), with so many people being non native English speakers, it makes it so much harder for them to understand, and consequently give their input.

Other rules we should implement:
No all caps topic titles
No special characters in topic titles
No fancy avatars
No large sigs
No large images
Anything else from here :D

Re: Steve..............................

Why? You want to do all that to make it boring here too? ;)

what would happen if i posted i was driving down the M8? (if there is an M8) :D

i agree the above qoute should not be allowed its so Chavtastic :p but txt speak in moderation is ok many ppl who are dislexic etc use it as short hand (i do at times) esp if relpying to a post in depth

when i first got onto this 'baord i had trouble understanding some of the txt speak, maybe we should have a dictionary, we can all add to it, new users can see what we are on about????,

nath

hehe, not meaning to go against the masses but, the quote where the person wrote all the short hand and some loonnng hand, kind of IMHO gives the message personality.

I was speaking to some Austrailian on MSN the other day and I could tell he was from Austrailier. I asked him just to make sure and I was right and he knew I was from England cause I used words such as; Safe, Easy, Bruv, l8r etc.

I personnally dont mind but maybe somewhere in the user profile they could select an auto translation filter so that every message they read is in plain english and if you don't mind the short/long hand you could just leave it as it is :)
