I use Opera and it shows a status bar as it downloads the image.
Get rid of it.

You do realise if you click it again while it's loading, it opens the image in a new window/tab?
MiG made the point perfectly. You click a small image in a post to wait for a 3 second jazzy animation thing to show you a similarly sized small image.Yep, but if everyone clicks over it, then whats the point of it being there in the first place?
If its there for a 'quick' preview then it should show a scaled image, one that is considerably smaller in file size, loading the original on click.
But then again we already have that in the forum post itself
I think you're looking at it the wrong way.
1) You click and wait ages for a large attachment to load, which is too big for the screen anyway
2) You click and wait ages for a scaled down version to load, however if you want it to load as massive, just click it again and you dont have to wait as it already downloaded ...
So it's not useless
You're right - it does load it again, even though it's exactly the same address.
I wonder if caching is disabled on attachments - could be a bug, I'll report it and see what happens.
