Get rid of it.

Or at least add some sort of 'status' to it so you know how much its downloaded!

Also, if you scroll the wheel on your mouse the whole thing disappears

Right load of crap it is!

I use Opera and it shows a status bar as it downloads the image.

Doesnt on Firefox. Not sure on IE.

So if its a broswer issue, :bang:

EDIT - Status as in 456kb / 2500kb ? Or Just a loading image. As I get that.

You do realise if you click it again while it's loading, it opens the image in a new window/tab?

Yep, but if everyone clicks over it, then whats the point of it being there in the first place?

If its there for a 'quick' preview then it should show a scaled image, one that is considerably smaller in file size, loading the original on click.

But then again we already have that in the forum post itself

MiG made the point perfectly. You click a small image in a post to wait for a 3 second jazzy animation thing to show you a similarly sized small image.

At least we can click that and get to a full sized image.

embrace lightbox!

how about getting miffed with the people who haven't a clue how to resize files and think its perfectly fine to upload a 2mb+ jpg as an attachment? :p

re the status bar, its an opera feature - not a part of the lightbox script

I think you're looking at it the wrong way.

1) You click and wait ages for a large attachment to load, which is too big for the screen anyway
2) You click and wait ages for a scaled down version to load, however if you want it to load as massive, just click it again and you dont have to wait as it already downloaded ...

So it's not useless ;)

1) It won't be too big for the screen, because all browsers will scale the image to the size of the screen, only getting bigger when you click it.

2) I can't get my head around number two. On Firefox 3.0.4, IE7, Even when Lightbox has loaded the image, clicking on it still results in the image loading (Not checked other browsers). However, just comparing sizes, the scaled version isn't really that 'scaled'.

For Example.

From my findings, the scaled image in this thread -

https://www.fiatforum.com/members-motors/169021-my-marea-weekend-jtd.html

Appears in the Lightbox window with a resolution of 1018x768, which we can probably round to 1024x768 due to dodgey cropping.

When I click the image, the image appears scaled in firefox/IE at 1128x853.

So were looking at roughly 10% either way.

Is this worth it? Not IMO.
