Ben,

I take it you read this part of the forum more than anyone else owning to your duties.

This will probably be frowned upon but is their anyway of having a 56k version of FF? I never came on until I got BB cos the waiting on dial up just infuriated me, it's all the limled sig that take ages to load ala the start page is 2k and some topics are over 100K.

As you and I know this section is only site ideas so no worries if it is too much hassle.

Cheers

Liam

I apologise for my large signiture etc.

Speak to Helz if you want, she will suggest ways to help speed up the website using a different browser instead of IE which will easily allow you to control loading up of images, cache(ing) much more easily etc.

I agree though, it must be a struggle for the significant minority who either haven't got BB in their area/can't afford it :(

Hiya Liam
As Paul has suggested you could try using Opera browser ( http://www.opera.com ) which has the option to cache (store) pictures and pages. So instead of having to load picures every time a page loads I can load them once a week then they will be stored on my PC instead of loading from the server. Therefore only the text and layout has to be loaded (often the layout can be stored as well if it's done with CSS) and this speeds it up a lot. If I want to load images I can either do them individually or load a full page with one click.

Not to mention the improved cookie control, magic wand, improved pop-up control, skins, general customisation. D'ya want me to go on? I think what I'm trying to say is that a separate site isn't necessary :D

As for broadband take-up Paul, I think you'll find you're still the significant minority: in April only 37% of the population used Broadband as their main means of internet connection (and considering this includes work usage I'd say home connections are far lower).

if you want to stick to IE you could just go into tools, internet options, advanced and un tick show pictures, then no pictures come, if you then want a pic to show right click and choose show picture:)

only 37% with broadband, but proubaly lots of the others polled didn't want it or never even had a computer:p
i don't know i'm just mad:)

Helz; significant minority "on this site" is what I was talking about, which I think is true in my experience.

Aaaahhhh Dave, but it's a lot easier to switch between them with a single click (or single keystroke) than faff about with menus ;). Plus you get the extra caching option which I don't think you get with IE. As in if you surfed FF on my browser you wouldn't even know most of thetime that I wasn't loading pictures.

Servers not the speed problem, its the fact a page can be about 100k.... 20seconds on 56k at your max speed... nothing i can do about it :(
