Took merc in for a new window, they had a good look over car wrote down any scratches then got me to sign. Wasn’t allowed to watch job being done told come back in 2 hours.
When I get back there’s all scratches on the bonnet, that were not there before, looked like someone had sat on it wiggling their ass about, or put a tool box on or something, also a scratch across the bonnet looked like it had been slightly touched with bottom of the screen as it was passed across, I complained in a nice manner and the man who done the job and a boy came out to look, but instead of saying sorry an offering to see if they could polish them out, I got load of bull that no way they could have done it as they do the whole job with the bonnet up, but bonnet had obviously been wiped over with a rag that could have scratched, it could have been done before or after the job defiantly were not there before, but they was having none of it kept coming out with silly excuses like the scratch across the bonnet couldn’t have been done buy the glass because if it was would be deeper, the boy said if I got a bit of glass and scrapped it across the bonnet I would see that it would make a deeper scratch, I said to him depends how much pressure you put on it, he says what do you mean pressure, I then left because I would have hit him if he kept treating me like an idiot, this was my old 190e merc that has pretty thick paint so probably will polish out, but if it was my punto probably would need a re-spray now, never going there again

T*ats

Personally I wouldn't let anyone work on my car unless I was there to watch. When they said you weren't allowed to watch I'd have replied with "fine, f*** you then, I'm off elsewhere".

Aren't all the windscreen companies supposed to use those bonnet covers anyway, to protect the paintwork? You should ring their head office and make a complaint.

did they mark down any scrathes on the bonnet when you first took it in and signed for it
no they didnt, only wrote down the scratches on rear door wheel arch and corner of boot.
i have emailed there complaints department. i couldnt be bothered to write this all out again so just gave them a link to this thread,

i did tell the boy who was working there that i was going to put it up on here, i told him we get over 200 hits an hour he just gave be an i am not bothered look :(

they will need to sign up to see this thread though, well i did when i sent someone a direct link

you should be onto a winner dave if they never marked/noticed any scrathes to begin with

Dave, if they signed off the scratches and more were formed, you can claim for them, surely that's why they make you sign the form in the first place?!

Dave, just go down the courts and get some small claim forms. They will have to pay up because they signed the paperwork stating where there was scratches.
If they want to let it go as far as the small claims court they will end up paying for all the costs which include :
Your time spent on every minute of this case, like time on the phone, time writting letters and emails and time off work for the court case, and anyone elses expenses if they are wanted as witnesses, i.e. someone who saw your car before it was damaged. They will have to cover the cost of a courtesy car while yours is being resprayed etc.. You name it, anything at all to do with what they have done, they will be paying for it.
Unless they see sense and do the right thing now.

Small claims court limit witness expences to £50, I had to travel from manchester to london to appear as a whitness to a car accident, and the compensation didn't even cover the train fair.... but they will probably get you more money than you need to fix the damage. The people I went for, won their case were awarded costs + expenses which covered the next years insurance premium.

Sorry to hear you have had so much hassle Dave, especially when you usually get good treatment from people when your cars need that bit extra work. Hopefully head office will come to their senses, see that an error has been made and do something to put it right!

What a bull**** answer....if they bother filling in the form then that form stands.
the form looked like it had about 3 copies under it but i was given nothing :( never even got a recipt for my excess now i think about it, gits and i thought they was a top company before this :(

EDIT form proubaly got the scratches added to it now :( but i have a witness :)

So you don't have a copy of the form? First thing tomorrow go and request it, I expect it will be "mislaid" but worth a try. You have a very strong case Dave, I wouldn't worry, they will end up paying out I am sure....

Except me, I will stand behind you reminding you how illegal violence is ;)lol

I expect the form gives a carbon copy, you should have been given one I suppose but they didn't want to do that since they knew they have made a mistake. If autoglass are going to save their reputation then they better get into gear and sort it out for you.

I've only used Autoglass once an that was last November.

Had a 6 inch crack in the Brava front screen. They gave me a time 'window' of between 2 & 5 PM on a Saturday afternoon and would come from the Lincoln depot. He turned up on my doorstep at 5 to 5 :D

It was dark and effin cold, but I wasn't doin the job.......

40 mins and 2 cups of tea later and job was done.

The job was spot on, and ever since I haven't had rain water running down the inside of the screen...:)

Obviously, There are shysters out there, but there are good uns too......
