Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get hold of the diagnostic sopftware and cable that fiat dealerships use? I previously owned a VW Golf and you could get hold of the cables and software to diagnose faults yourself. I know the socket for the cable is at the top of the interior fuse box.
Thanks
James

James,

Best bet is to try eBay - I've seen the examiner software on there before as well as various cables. You will possibly be best searching worlwide for items available to the UK as most of the good stuff like that seems to come from Germany.

DONT use the examiner software on a laptop that you need to use for anything else as it basically overrides the OS. The examiner is a standalone piece of kit.

I have both the examiner software installation and programme CD plus the ISO cable.....and a knackered lap top. I bought the SP kit now to do diagnostics which retails over £3,500 for the full set up.

Could u help me with the software and schematic for interface? At least the name of the software and what kind of interface do u have.
I have a steering problem and I'd like to know the error code. Thx!

You don't need Examiner if you just want to read off your logged fault codes. Lots of programs can do that

Programs such as OBD Scanmaster
or VAG com, OBDmaster, Freescan and a whole load of others will do that

You can download Scanmaster free from their website

http://www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk/eobd/scanmasterfree.html

VAG com is available free download here

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/usb/usb-config.html depends though whether you want a usb connection or serial connector- They have both

Fault Codes are here

Re connectors and interfaces- you want a usb (or serial) to an interface and then from the interface to your car OBD2 terminal which is just to the left of your fuse box so two cables, one interface and you're ready to connect

Interfaces and cables are available on Ebay of if you keep your eye out. Mostly from Germany

Found some software(AUTOTEC) but don't know what interface tu use, schematic...

Well I've just bought an EOBD II connector and interface from ebay (thanks student loan, although with postage it was only about £25!) and will try and get the examiner software or similar done.

I shall let you know what happens, if anything! :D

The Stilo isn't too different from most other european OBD2 setups so although it's not listed as being covered so often it's just that there's not many people who have had the balls to plug in and test to see if it works

Not surprising, as a shower of sparks, smoke and a fried ECU are always a distant possibility:)

Really neat seeing all the readouts from the various engine sensors, a virtual dashboard and performance graphs from your engine on your laptop while the engine's running or you're driving along. Certainly helps to SEE what's going on as well as being able to read off any logged fault codes.

What software are you running deckchair?

Also, my laptop has no serial port, will a serial to USB adaptor work do you reckon?

Yes that looks like a good one and they're getting better all the time

I'm using a few different programs depending on what you want to read or do. They're all free downloads and some will do more than others

Anyway i use OBDIIScanmaster, Freescan and OBDMaster. I think they all read off the DTCs (faults) but some will clear codes and others not. Some give out graphical outputs and some are just figures

You can get Scanmaster as a free download from here
http://www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk/eobd/scanmasterfree.html

There's a good forum there too for OBD people:)

At a guess I'd say you'd have to watch it re serial or usb as they might not be interchangeable
