Regen using cheap fuel asda/tesco occurred at 80miles, but using shell/pb premium diesel regen round about 150 miles, and lighter blue smoke so premium diesel recommended (now at 145 miles/ 80% dpf clogged) and i just drove up and down the motorway and nothing happened??? Pre cat was uo to just over 400 deg and dpf sat at around 300 deg after around 20 miles of driving but no regen so far.
 
I noticed on my last regen at around 160 miles, pushing hard on motorway above 3000 revs almost no smoke but once of motorway smoke is visible again, could be getting better, waiting for next regen to see. I always use premium fuel btw.
Have you had mot yet?

Last regen @ 190 miles, large bonfire sized puffs of smoke when moving off, but not much on motorway, see what happens, alway open to advice from readers

As my mot was good i am now selling my stilo 1.9d 5 door (no smoke) lots of mot, clutch a bit heavy but works great, glasgow area.

I'm keeping this, just done timing belt, new turbo, glow plugs, starter motor and full service, front discs and pads, plus rear brake service.

latest regen @ 120 miles, only a few swirls of light grey/ blue smoke then clear for rest of regen, motorway driving 60 mph, so looks like (in my case) that cleaning out dpf with a chemical foam flush aerosol (cost about £15 for two cans), switching to premium diesel fuel and lots of motorway miles has caused the vast clouds of blue smoke to clear for good, still some light smoke at regen and i can live with that.
 
up to 235 miles, puffs of blue smoke, lasted on motorway for around 20 miles, so intervals getting longer, when i got the sedici it was every 20-30 miles...

I'm thinking oil pressure sensor or MAP sensor, as quite a bit of oil in air intake, on regen this could be being force back by higher pressure and burnt off?? Ive had MAP off and clean it up. Do you know where oil pressure sensor/switch is, also i can't see any crankshaft breather pipes,,,any pointers?
 
Nope regen @ 225mls smoking blue and i had to stop mid regen outside my sons colledge, an irate woman filmed the blue bonfire and accosted me for polluting the students, then ran away before i could explain.:):)
I do not know where the oil pressure sensor is, sorry, but it seems like burning fuel rather than oil.
 
Yes more like burning fuel, you're right. I cleaned air intake out and put a bottle of injector cleaner in and the car is running really good now very responsive.
then I put a bottle of DPF cleaner in and the next regen was plumes of smoke, strange. The oil pressure switch is down at the bottom of the dipstick near the starter motor on the back of the engine. I'm thinking with the higher temperature on Regen that the engine is not breathing properly so I'm getting all the breather pipes off and cleaning them out see if this helps and replacing the oil pressure switch, it's only 8 pounds but seems really hard to get at. Another thought is faulty MAF sensor as this regulates fuel/air and oil pressure to the combustion chamber, so if that is faulty could be letting too much fuel in on the regen.
I'll let you know how I get on.
 
looks like a burst hose from the dpf to the pressure sensor letting smoke out into the engine bay. I am still thinking Pre cat so i will see what Mrs santa gets me for christmas:):):)

If is DPF regen as suspected, the blue smoke is caused by the post-injected fuel. At first the pre-cat is not hot enough (about 200 degress C) to fully catalyse the unburned post-injected fuel. As the fuel continues to be catalysed, the pre-cat temperature will soon reach approximately 600 deg C, thus the pre-cat is working effectively and no more smoke will be seen.

If blue smoke continues after approximately 1 minute, then either the engine is not hot enough or the pre-cat is faulty.

The way to tell if a regen is in progress is to look at the instantaneous mpg reading on the BC whilst idling. During regen it will read 0.6-0.9 gal/h. In normal operation it will be 0.1-0.2 gal/h.

During my regen precat only gets to 175deg although previous dpf temps around 512 deg ???
What temps should I expect during regen after th first few minutes???
 
anyone know what the temperatures and settings for a successful regen on a sedici 1.9 should be, so i can ensure that the pre cat etc is reaching working temp fast enough as i get blue smoke for at lest 10 minutes after regen starts, thinking that precat not heating up fast enough???
 
So I'm thinking of changing the pre cat as you say the only thing we can find out about this issue points to that.
However, with the regularity of the re gens it seems that the dpf may need changing too.
So change them both?
Or could do pre cat first and see how it goes I suppose.
 
Another thing.
What's your oil like? I've found in the past that the 1.9 jtd engine where never very sooty and the engine oil stayed clear between changes. I've looked at a couple of multijet engines too that have had clear oil.
Mine is black a week or so after change and smells of fuel now, I've never stopped it mid re gen since changing the oil btw.
 
I've invested in an infrared thermometer. I've taken readings at full operating temperature-pre cat, near inlet 100°c, near outlet 88°, pipe from pre cat 80°, middle box(cat+dpf), cat area 80°, dpf area 67°. Given that the temperature is less coming out of the pre cat I would say it's definitely not working correctly.
If the internal temperature can get up to 600°c on regen. Do you know what temp it should be at normal running?
 
Oil on mine went black within days, mine is now regenning at the 230-250 mile mark, still lots of smoke in puffs, but looks like no precat for xmas so i will watch yours with interest, my precat only getting to 174.9 deg c , avg last 5 regens dpf temp 578.76 c so precat suspect, but i would only swap out the precat, and see what happens.
do you have multiecuscan software to check internal temps?
