I just had a new clutch fitted to my '06 sedici 4x4
There is a a lot of prop shaft vibration now. (over 55mph)
Could it have happened during the clutch replacement (£800 approx) ?
Fiat want £1200 for a new shaft !!1 I feel shafted !

Questions.
is the UJ servicable ?
any one done it ?

i love that little car but these costs are crazy :-/

Any thoughts suggestions or advice much appreciated

Hi, Graeme

Out of interest, how many miles has your car done?

It is possible that the work could have left you with the vibration problem if the prop was not marked against the output shaft before removal. Have a look and see if the garage has scratched any marks at the front end of the prop. Without marking it, there is a 1 in 4 chance that everything will be reconnected as it was (assuming there are 4 bolts which I'm not 100% sure of but seems likely).

In an ideal world, there shouldn't be a problem in fitting a prop in any of the 4 possible configurations, but you may find that unbolting the shaft, rotating to the next bolt hole and then re-attaching the bolts solves your problem. Repeat x2 before giving up!

While under the car, also have a look at any fixings further back. changing positions of these can alter the angles of bends in the propshaft. If you see any evidence of these having shifted position, loosen the bolts and move the bracket before tightening them back up.

Since you paid to have the clutch done, it is up to you whether you get your hands dirty. Depending on what you find from looking underneath, you could take the car back and point out that the prop shaft appears to have been refitted in a different position, or without any scratch marks to ensure the same position.

Finally, if a new prop really is required, talk to Dave Mac propshafts. Their units tend to come to about half of OE propshafts and usually come with serviceable components.

hi I would remove the prop and drive with front wheels only to make sure it is the prop that's vibrating and not something else. Then you definitely have your answer.

Thanks so much for this input guys, very helpful.
I got the car with 34k and now its 134k, regular serviced, really bomb proof.
got it running on lpg too, so very cost-effective.
If i take the shaft off to check if it is the source of the vibration can I get the
UJ serviced ?
thanks again
Graeme
