Hi - I own a 2006 1.6 petrol Fiat Sedici with about 45K on the clock and recently the Malfunction Indicator Light which does NOT go off when the engine is started. The owners handbook says that it indicates that the emission control system needs servicing. I don't know where my nearest Fiat dealer is so I took it to a Suzuki main dealer but was told that he could not do any diagnostics because the 'codes' were different (I thought it was a Suzuki engine?).

Can anyone confirm that this problem is the emission control and if this problem can be sorted out by a registered Suzuki dealer?

Many thanks

Ken

Hi Merseyman - check this thread out https://www.fiatforum.com/sedici/313962-engine-management-light.html

If you look at that thread there a Suzuki dealer letter confirming theres a known issue with the light coming on falsely.

Ours has been on for about 20k now and never had an issue - its just the sensor for the light off the Lambda on our car. A new Lambda would do it but it functions fine - runs perfect - fuel usage is completely normal so to spend £50 on and try to get the old one off for the sake of a light was not worth the hassle to me.

The codes will be the same as it is a Suzuki unit but an official dealer will not want to touch it for fear of upsetting the manufacturers.........

Where are you? Motor-Mech in Birmingham looks after my cars and confirmed for me. I would get it checked by a non-dealer as it could be a genuine problem - though like us if it runs perfectly it'll probably be that

Hi, I resolved this issue on my 07 car simply disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes, reconnect the negative battery terminal, sorted
Perhaps not a permanent fix but should the maintenance light come on again simply repeat the above process. Obviously seek professional help if this fix doesn't work for you

bigdish - Yes this will remove the light - temporarily! All you are doing is resetting the ECU and clearing the diagnostics..... Any lasting issue with re-occur and the light will re-appear.

Hi had the same problem for a couple of weeks, then I bought some Redex fuel system cleaner filled up the tank and added a dose of the cleaner, after a couple of the days the Emission Indicator light went off. And so far has stayed off;);););););)
Hope this helps
