I had a bit of a problem on my way back from the main office yesterday.

I was accelerating out of a 30 zone and heard a loud 'bumpf' and then hissing of air. It sounded like a fairly major puncture so I pulled over and had a look around. No puncture. Checked under the car, nothing hanging down. Rocked the car, nothing suspensiony sounding, went through the biting point on all the gears, no problems.

I pulled away and there was an ever-increasing sound as if someone had attached a metal bin to the front of the car and it was dragging along the ground.

Turned back and got back to the company car park. With the windows down it sounded like it was coming from the front right so i took the wheel off to have a check.

Turns out part of the steel backplate on the brake assembly had snapped off, and the rest was now pressed up against the brake disc. I gave it a poke and it pinged back into it's normal place. Wheel back on, job done.

Was slightly worrying though 90 miles from home with a potentially knackered car. Couldn't see anything that i could have hit to make it happen as I drove back so all in all an odd experience.

As a side note, my wheel nuts weren't on as tight as i thought they should be (after a recent new set of tyres). Lessen learned, check your nuts people!

Perhaps it wants to follow it's FIAT heritage instead of its Japanese upbringing. Not that I anthropomorphise my cars. It doesn't have a name or sex either.

... As a side note, my wheel nuts weren't on as tight as i thought they should be (after a recent new set of tyres) ...

What happened to the Nexen CP641 (Dec2010)? … & your 2008 rear tyres that were predicted to reach Mar2012?

.

Ah yes, well by 'recent' i meant December when the fronts went on. They still look pretty new so they should be lasting a fair amount of time.

Still got the original rears on but they'll most likely need doing before MOT in December.

In my experience the Sedici is very kind to the rears but destroys the fronts. Might also be down to my driving style!
