Hi, Early December last year I put two new Pirelli P7's on the front of my car. This was perfect timing as then all the snow came in the South and I was smug in the knowledge that I had new boots on my trusty Sedici. Almost a year on and I've noticed that i'm almost down to the legal limit again.

So i've had two new fronts in April 2008, December 2009 and now coming up to December 2010. This is odd to me because the 08 tyres were a random brand and lasted 20 months, and then the 09 ones have only lasted 12, which were supposedly decent (and expensive) ones.

Have any of you had any experience with high wear on their fronts? I'm thinking the diesel owners specifically because I can imagine this is just down to the amount of torque the 1.9 has. Would like to get a baseline of the wear others are getting from their tyres on the Sedici!

Incidentally, I haven't changed the rears since I got it in 2008.

Think i'm going to have to push a little less with the right foot from now on. At over £100 per tyre I don't think I can afford my 'enthusiastic' driving style!

Speaking of which, if anyone is in mid-Wales anytime soon check out the Cwmystwyth to Rhayader road. It's epic!

My front tyres has serious wear at 12,000 miles so I had swapped them around with the rear ones.

Now at 18,000 miles the front ones are also worn seriously. Seems Sedici have an appetite for front tyres. I also have changed the front brake pads 3 times in 18,000 miles.....

..and no I am not a hooligan driver - just drive fast where it is permissible...

The tyres are the originals which came with the car from FIAT. Now due for a change....

Our 1.9 squeaked to the 20k mark before needing to replace but that was only by rotating the tyres.
I'd suggest if you don't rotate you'll get somewhere between 12k & 18k out of a set.
Pirelli are fairly well known for good grip but shorter life so it may be a combination of tyre brand & car. We had some Yokohama's that seem a little more robust.
This year we've just switched to a front pair of Vredestein Snowtrak's which I have no idea about with regard to longevity, but get pretty good write-ups regard bad weather grip... so we'll see.

You didn't mention how many miles you covered in your original post but I think Volvo_Saint is pretty much in the right ball park.

Cheers

Just checked through my logs and have done about 15,500 on the Pirelli P7's. They were very good tyres with very good grip. Very impressed with braking distance on the Sedici. Brakes are due soon i think!

Got it booked in for two new fronts next week. Putting on a pair of Nexen CP641's. £128 fitted through Blackcircles.com so cheaper than the Pirellis which were £180 or so. Not sure what they're going to be like but there's only one way to find out!

Thanks for the feedback folks!

Let us know how the new tyres go guys..... I need some fronts....
With the Sedici not being exactly a sports car I'm tempted by some of those Black Circles Midrange Tyres. Heard good things about Falkens........

Well the tyres are now fitted, but not without a lot of hassle.

Black circles neglected to tell the assigned garage or me that the tyres won't be arriving on the set fitting day, so I arrive to the garage and they have no tyres to fit me. At this point the money has already been taken out my account by blackcircles. Not impressed.

I rang them up and told them to get them delivered as soon as poss and i'd arrange the fitting with the garage myself. They were apologetic but none-the-less, useless. Got a £10 coupon for my next purchase as a token gesture but don't think that's going to get used!

As for the tyres themselves, they seem to be quiet, sturdy and grippy. Haven't put them through their paces yet because they're new and I don't want to get them dirty or ruin them! Although they look like American white-walls at the moment with the amount of salt stuck to them!

Done about 1700 miles on the Vredestein Snowtrac 3's (£120 fitted each inc VAT) that we fitted last month.

Went from West Yorkshire to Scotland last week through all the snow, and they were absolutely superb. Didn't get remotely close to getting stuck. Way better than the Pirelli's (and I was impressed by those last winter).

No adverse effect on handling or road noise that I can tell (hey, it's hardly a ferrari!) and they seem to be wearing well but it's probably early days to tell on that front.

Hope that helps :D

Have to say I used BlackCircles for the first time when ours needed rears a year or so ago and I discovered the garage a few miles away had started a franchise and they were excellant. Good service. Think I'm going for Falkens in the new year.........(I'l; have your voucher cmm!!) lol

I am asking a different question here.
I posted about which tyre and got numerous replies.

Now ; Anybody else suffer with high tyre wear on the fronts ??
My very good local garage man has checked all the workings on the front suspension etc,, re track with lasor etc etc.. New front springs were fitted .

I bought two new Dunplop tyres for front only in March. Done less than 8000 miles, yet the new tyres are allready showing severe wear . Just like the old ones.
Garage " man thinks".....To much play in wishbones.
Means little to me. He says its the car design..

Any thoughts or simular problems ?

Hi Car design? He's talking utter crap. Bought my 2007 Sedici multijet in March 2012 with westfield 205 60 16 Tyre's on it. I checked all tyre tread as I do when I get a different car and the fronts were both 6mm Ive done around 16,000 miles on them and have been and checked 10 mins ago just for you and they are now 4.5mm and 5mm so for a not to good a brand I think that they are OK and will try my best to get the same one's again when they need replacing. Are you running them at the correct pressure and do you have a good pressure gauge as some are a little bit out so they can increase tyre wear if under inflated. Regards Stephen. :)

Agree.

Just about to swap onto my winter tyres - hoping for proper snow this year!

:)
