Someone I know had a bad weekend:

He has a corsa and went to David Lloyd's gym on sunday. This is a carpark with secure access through keycard. Came back out and someone had broken in, taken out his headunit (and face plate he left in his glovebox....!), rear parcel shelf with 6x9's, amp and his sub. He didn't understand me when I jokingly asked whether they left the wiring. I can't understand how in such a busy carpark they had time to take ALL that. It's half his fault, he's a bit of a show off and I guess plenty of people knew he had an ok sound system and all they needed to do was notice his car and they have their chance.

Sad world.

have you ever broken down in a car park and spent a couple of hours repairing it,no one says anything and the same goes for confident thieves.they probably watched your mate and knew how long he spends in the gym.don't make it right though[:(!]

True, I have sat in my car in the dark trying to get a CD player to work for maybe 45 minutes before and ok, mainly everyone knows who i am on my fairly friendly street but many people walked past who didn't know who I was and just ignored me, it should have looked like I was nicking the radio yet they just kept their nose out of it. The amount of times that my useless alarm goes off (whoever designed a keyfob with protuding and easy to press buttons i don't know!) when I am driving or just opening it up is amazing, yet no one cares!

At least the liklihood is that these thieves knew a little what they were doing and you have to give them credit for that! lol, still should be dealt with as you say. It still flabigasts me how confident these people can be to take HIS whole audio system in broad day light in a fairly secure car park!

Rgds and good night

yeah im the same as live in a private complex of flats thats well lit with private parking and only one entrance, yet these guy/s came in and bent the door out(no alarm as i'd only had the car a month) and yet they only took the surround from my kenwood mask headuni but they had a good look for the removal keys so i'm guessing they knew that ripping it out would destroy the mask mechanism,so im taking the head unit out every night till i get the cash for an alarm,oh and i cant seem to find a supplier for a new surround for my head unit(its about 4/5 years old!!)

Try contacting kenwood themselves? I bought mine off ebay and it was missing a remote and I emailed and they cost it out for £15 for it, would go for it but I don't see the need in getting one. I don't want my "friends" or my little sister changing my radio/cd!!!

I just have a basic alarm and just hope that as my car is worth nothing and I always take face off bit with me that no one will see the point in breaking in. At least, if they do break in they will be a run of the mill idiot and not know how to disconnect the alarm. I think if I ever had my car broken into (I am only 18...I have never been the victim of theft) the worst bit I would feel is that they got something for nothing, where as I saved up/worked hard for it. That would be my biggest problem.

I guess those guys intended to come back with the right removal keys? If i ever heard my alarm going off I wouldn't know what to do. I hear too often of people being stabbed etc. for trying to stop there car from being stolen, i'm not a small person or much of a whimp but I would definately think twice if i was on my own and the guy(s) looked worse than me.

I don't know if Nottingham if bad but for a second example, (i don't have many friends that drive yet, maybe 5) but another one was sat the the traffic lights in another corsa when someone put his window through and went for the unlock thingy magig, this guy is a bit of a thug and smacked the guy in the face, floored it through the lights and went down the road and called the police. They did nothing and later when on the news there had been an armed bank robbery at the same place at the same time he also called to say that he thought it could be related, also, couldn't be bothered.

I would say an alarm is only as good as your car. If they want your car because it is good, they will do what they want to get it.

problem is it being an older model, things like remotes dont change much but i'll keep trying,i have emailed kenwood justwaiting on a response[:(!]as for an alarm ive just got a toad sterling pro but it was faulty so im waiting for a replacement[V]yeah im guessing thats why they took the fascia thinking they would come back to finish the job(stayed up till 5am the next night)with the cinq its more the stereo and the damage they do as the standard immob plus the alarm immob should do the trick

theives are the scum of the earth, after having my punto broken into 2 times, i decided to fork out just under £200 for a decent cobra alarm with remote central locking, and even after this they took the p*** and nicked half a packet of fags off my dashboard and destroy my lock after I just had it fixed a few weeks earlier! and the best part is the fags weren't even mine in the first place! [}:)]

People just seem to ignore alarm sirens these days, if i ever get a GT or sumthing faster as i hope to in the future, i am definatly gonna get a pager equipped alarm, then as soon as it goes off i'll be out like a flash to investigate!

Tinted windows can also sumtimes be a deterant, or u could go to the trouble of having a totally stealthed install, where everything is hidden, including the head unit, i've seen em inside the glove compartment before now!

Say you get paged at 3:30am - most tired time of night - saying your car alarm is going off. You throw on your slippers to find out what is happening and walk outside where you see a guy in your car. You walk over ready to let it kick off then his mate in the car behind stabs you and then they drive off with your car anyway.

Not saying you have to let the scum get away with it but a pager alarm isn't much of an answer. But no one else has the answer either. Your car however isn't something to get killed over.

all you can do is try and prevent.if i had a hot motor (and cash) thatcham1 ,delocked ,security window film, secondary immobiliser, stealth ice and something else like that company that poured smoke in the interior when the alarm went off.not preventative but trackers and alarms that lock the brakes and kill the engine when the brake is applied below a certain speed work[V][:(!]
