Hi guys I am new to the forum,

A thief came into my home and stole my car keys to a mk3 fiat punto big front lights version, I found the car a couple of street away parked up with the head unit still there but the bonnet undone??????

They did not damage the car at all but I now have no keys, I turned the steering wheel and it locked on so I new for sure they took the keys as they could not have got it there with out them.

How do I go about getting another key? or a complete set including ignition barrel as they may come back for it if I just get another key.

Also my main concern is people talking about needing an ecu? My key was just a simple old style key no buttons etc on it at all. I just want to be able to sell the car it only has 77,000 on the clock 53 plate it will make a nice first car for someone.

If you're selling anyway I wouldn't worry too much about someone else having the key, just go and visit your local dealership and they'll hook you up - be about £120-200 all in for a new key + coding. Of course, tell the person/dealer that you sell the car to that a key has been stolen.

If you wanted to go the whole hog, your best option would be to get ignition barrel, locks, ECU and keys from a donor vehicle. Might be slightly cheaper but a fair bit more complicated.

Thanks for the advice guys, looks like I am going to have to take it to fiat then, will they code it with a different code so they can't use the key they stole off me?

Fiat quoted me £131.30 for the key plus vat
£42.02 for the code
and £50 for them to put the code in

Tell them £42.02 for the code is discussing. Most dealers (and I found the invoice for mine in 2009) is £15 +vat.
