Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2003 punto and while I was looking through the paperwork I found some documents indicating that it has a CAT 1 security system fitted. Is this something that I should tell my insurance about? Also if this is a higher rating that the original one should my premium fall due to the reduced likelihood of the car being stolen?

Thanks.

Cat1 is simply a thatcham approved alarm system
details Here

Standard setup on a Fiat Punto is Cat2 which is an immobiliser without alarm.
unless you actually know whats been fitted and can provide an installation certificate then most insurance companies won't recognise it.

:yeahthat:

From memory when I had a cat 1 system fitted to my old Impreza, to qualify for a cat 1 rating the alarm also has to immobilise the car in 3 different places, so Johnny Joyrider can't just find 2 wires, join them together and be on his merry scumbag way...
