Hi All,

I am thinking of adding central locking to my Fiat Punto 60S - is it an easy mod I can do myself and is there a kit available or am I best getting a garage to fit it?

I prefer remote central locking with a blip thingy, but locking and unlocking from my drivers door would be acceptable.

Any help appreciated.

Widdy.

thers alot of "Universal" kits on ebay i was thinking of doing the same but not too sure how hard it wud be

Whimmy, that needs the central locking to already be there and just makes it remote control right? I don't think the poster has central locking fitted.

My feeling was that it looked like a hell of a job to fit one of those universal kits!

It's not too hard if you can put the effort in it took me a couple of days to do it on a uno. They are quite fiddly (mine was anyway) getting the moving bits lined up though... the instructions were good although I chucked them out after.

Mine was off ebay similar looking to that one you found but not the same. Once you've got central locking, remote locking is no problem just more cash.

Any chance of me getting the discount :p

Seriously though how easy is this maplin one to fit and where do I get the power from - I take it each door needs power for the motor.

The first problem to overcome is where to mount the motors.. mine being 5 door I had to find a good place for two sets, my step dad helped with the drivers door which works perfectly. I tried to replicate the drivers side with the passengers and it seemed to work at the time but when activated the motor wasnt strong enough to push up the door pin, so I'm going to have to remove the entire lock mechanism to grease it up or whatever.
It is a tad fiddly to mount each motor, the wiring I don't know about because my gf's dad did it for me. There was a slight problem with the wiring tho, running the wires to the passenger door is easy enough but for some reason when it has been manufactured they splice off two of the cables for the back door motor, unfortunately this was too close to the end of the wires for the front door so I'm going to have to cut them off and re-solder them further up.
It is a bit of hastle, but for the price.. you can't go wrong.
I work at maplin in Doncaster, but only on saturdays.. I'm sure I could swing it for some discount (y)

Sounds quite complicated. Might give the stereo shop in town a ring, he does all auto-electrics see what prices he would fit a kit for if I buy one myself.

i did the boot pop for my 126 with a solenoid from maplin after i removed the boot lock , since i had removed the rear wiper too and used the wiring (switch on the dash) to hook it all up worked a treat!! did it in about an hour :)

Widdy do it yourself - I'm no genius and yes it was a hassle but more fun and not too hard - especially if you have a 3-door. Save the money and give it a go.

i added central locking to my 5 door punto 55s remote to. took me total of 7 hours. it took 3 bloody dismantaling the door panels, didnt have a clue how to take the window winders off. the kit only cost £35 inc p&p. was fiddly but not hard, would have took allot less time if i had the haynes manual when i did it. all worked was a fantastic accessesory, purchased off ebay only need a drill and spanners. just have to drill through the inside pannel to mount motors. then all you have to do it bolt the holder onto the mechanical part of the lock, the pin that comes up. n then thread the wires through the door gromet n wire up to the brain. also had to take all the plastics out to lay wire. well worth the effort thou.

hi, ive fitted a universal remote locking kit in my punto 60s (black off course) n it was real fun. motors were really easy to fit , i found a gud place only had to drill 1 extra hole as a hole was already there. Ive posted it on here n a link 4 pics but if need help msg me. the only tricky part is any was prob just hiding the wires and stuff away. i mounted the control unit under the steering column and powered n earthed it to the cd player. cant c anything at all now and its working fine so far.
