Hi guys, can i pick your brains?

Basically, my beloved Scudo engine messed up. Overlooked worn serp belt got pulled into timing belt when running and caused all sorts of problems. Engine is done. Got another engine from a scrappy that was sent to my mechanic to be fitted but he put a breaker bar on the crankshaft pully and there is zero resistance. he said the engine is no good....no compression. Breaker insists it's definitely a running engine and said to fit it and see. Mechanic said he doesn't want to waste my time and money by fitting an engine that's not gonna run. I know heehaw about engines so would there be noticeable compression or not? Mechanic says there should be and i've felt compression before in a different engine. Trying to slug it out with the breaker.

I believe thee should be compression. Even more so than a diesel as that's what makes it go bang. Do you have glow plugs in as there would be an escape for the air

Well there was an injector missing but mechanic plugged it with his finger and said there should be compression with the hole plugged but there's nothing at all. Managed to get my money back through credit card company so all is good. Still need an engine though if anyone knows anyone?

At least you got your money back. Im not sure where you are but do you have a scrap yard near you that you can see the engine running and then get I've had a few used engines from scrappies and I usually make a mark on the engine like a scratch or symbol so I know if the engine they supply is the one they showed me (its happened once or twice they tried to swap a different engine).

Second option is purchase a second hand car with same engine I saw one that was a 1.9d 206 with 2 weeks mot and had only done 80,000 miles with service history. Think it was up for £250. Hope that helps.

Yeah i tried but all the scrappys in my area didn't have one. One even asked if it was worth it for an 04 plate. How DARE he. My scudo is minted with not a bit of rust on it and flies through the MOT every year thank you very much.

Anyhoo, i've managed to find a decent scrappy and i now have an engine that HOPEFULLY will serve me for a long long time.

Thanks :)
