Fuel filter top cracked (Scudo 2004/2.0/JTD)

Stupidly I thought the fuel leak which happened during normal running, on the top of the fuel filter (the top, in the depression inside the knurled screw ring, was filling with diesel and spilling down the outside) was because of a leaky rubber sealing rung.

Nope. Fitted another filter and new ring. Put it together.Started engine, leak as before. Tightened ring. Still leaking. Wiped top. Fuel seeps from a small, almost invisible crack where the pencil points in the picture.

WHAT is the pressure like when running? Might it be possible to clean the plastic (glass-reinforced nylon???) with thinners and put some araldite on the inside?

Can the top be got separately? What does the electrical thing in the top do?

Argh! No money, need job, coronavirus, Easter weekennd....

Its the low pressure side..

Can you see the crack on the inner edge?

Might be worth digging a little groove.. so araldite keys better

Cable connection?

On my 1.3

It measures fuel temp..
and the fairly standard water in fuel sensor

That was quick, thank goodness. I have not taken the the top apart yet. I will add a pic now.

So not very high pressure?

How low is low..

To me the cap you have is currently junk..

But maybe the leak is 'tolerable'..

So not worth risking an issue where the van isnt driveable

Look on ePER for the replacement part number.. and an exploded view..

It is. I have no job, no money (and I really mean that!), but I have araldite, or even silicone rubber, and a "fix it if only temporarily" attitude

Well, I didn't press save.

So I have been farting about since then.

I removed the gubbins from the fuel filter cap (easy: 1 switch potted in glue, a few screws and washers, 1 pressure sensor? Like a 1cm-ish cylinder with screws each side).

Then I cleaned the poxy thing (cap) with thinner, then MEK, neither of which dissolve the plastic, unfortunately (unlike ABS, which glues brilliantly with MEK).

Then I wiped some Araldite on the inside wher I assume the crack is.

As soon as the glue was not runny any more, I put the innards back in the cap, degreased the outside again and blew it off with an air line, and dibbled a fresh batch of Araldite on, wiping it into a thin layer with my finger, to press it into the crack, then adding more Araldite on top.

Before that lot set, I put the lid back on, abd screwed up the knurled ring, so hopefully any minor flexing will be taken up by the runny glue.

Now I'm going to wait until tomorrow, for the glue to set properly, and I will see what happens when I start it.

I bet the poxy thing leaks. If I had a bottle of booze, I'd drink it.

A replacement "pattern" is 30+ delivered, from Poland:

Does that look right?

Well, the the filter top does not seem to leak now.

HOWEVER the plug-on pipes seem to leak a few drops of fuel.

Is there any way of stopping that?

At the plug.. or the hose itself..?

Looks to be from where the pipe plugs on, not a leak in the pipe itself. If you imagine the pipe fitting loosely on the spigot, that's what the effect would be (but the pipe is OE, and does "click" into place).

Re: Fuel filter top cracked (Scudo 2004/2.0/JTD)

Right. Well, the pipe stopped dripping. However, the araldite on the top has let go. Well, it did last for a while, which was nice of it.
