About a week ago the van would not start due to a flat battery, topped up the water and charged it up. Didn't refit battery for a week as I was as I was away. Fitted battery on return and it turned it over fine. Checked diesel supply, replaced fuel filter, but still no go. Got garage out who have diagnosed stop solenoid/ imobilizer fault.
I have been looking at all the threads on here regarding replacing the stop solenoid valve.
Can anyone explain in simple terms how the voltage gets to the stop valve via the imobilizer. Just curious if there is a fault with stop valve and you replace it, is it possible to wire it using the original wiring?
Also is it possible check whether the the imobilizer is working or not, could it have lost the code when the battery was off for a week.
Many thanks

I've just done a stop solenoid replacement on my 2001 1.9d.

I located the connector for the solenoid under the intake pipe second connector down. And when switching ignition on 12v would appear and disappear to key turning. Just be aware the colours of the cables were all the same in my fiat so could be for you (makes it difficult for theifs to work out which ones which then lol)

Also when your cranking does your red led at the front of the dash go off? If not it could be a sign of immobiliser issues.

Side note:- when I replaced my solenoid I reused the old wiring and connector to achieve oem look.

Side side note :- it is possible to do a swap with pump in situ but wil have to be done with a grinder or dermmel. Negative side is it leaves the solonoied exposed.

Or take pump out lot more involved but then you can retain then oem anti thief cover. Your choice and good luck. Let us know how you get on.

If you take out the fuel injector unit how do you remove the sheer off bolts from the solenoid cover ?

Either drill the heads out then once cover removed extract threads, or use an extraction socket for rounded off bolts.

Havent done the fuel pump out myself I opted for the cut and get going option.
But might do a proper one when cambelt and pump is up for renewal.

Well the Flu bug in the house has slowed the repairs down but finally finished it today and yes it started first time.
Got a little bit panicked when I cut the metal work from above the solenoid to find what I thought the very tight fitting solenoid body with about 2mm between the solenoid and the metal casing. It didn't look like there was room to turn the thing around. After cutting some more metal off I found the brass hex shape was just a sleeve fitted over the round solenoid body. A pair of mole grips got it out and fitted replacement (7185-900W). Tested wiring and found I had 2 x12V and a spare. Connected it up and hey presto she started first time.
Many thanks for the help

Good to hear it sorted the problem out. :slayer:

And thanks for the reply saying the issue is fixed. (y)

Happy motoring
