Recently bought a 2002 Scudo 2.0JTD with approx 175,000 miles. The van has a peculiar problem in that it will frequently cut out as soon as I put it into reverse. Over the last few days this seems to have spread to 2nd, and 4th gears. 1st, 3rd and 5th are fine.

I am no mechanic and firmly in the idiot category for such things however I think it is significant that the cutting out happens only when 2nd, 4th and reverese are engaged and that certainly for reverese it cuts out as soon as the gear is engaged and before the clutch is lifted. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated

I don't recall any dashboard lights appearing prior to cutting out just normal pre-ignition array of lights when engine has cut out/stalled

I had a similar problem, and it ended up a broken wire on the engine harness, which cut the Crank sensor when there was flexing from changing gear.
Its not necessarily the same sensor, but potentially a broken wire.
Best thing is to take to a garage with a decent diagnostic, they can couple it up whilst the engine is running, change gears like you advise and see what drops out sensor wise.
