2002 Scudo 1.9d

Hello all,

Names Kev and iv joined to seek advice. Im currently on the lookout for a van to transport a race bike and associated equipment to the various race tracks in the uk. Race bikes weigh less than 200kg and the equipment i mention doesn't add up to much either, so i don't have a huge payload requirement, therefore a mid size van will do fine.

Looking online the old Scudo 1.9d has good reviews and many owners report high mileages. I preferably wanted a petrol engine for reliability but I have come across a 2002 Scudo 1.9d for sale with just 63000 on the clock. Only highlighted problem is the fuel gauge has stopped working. It looks a very clean van with just 1 owner from new.

Not much will be asked of the van apart from maybe 20 trips to tracks just transporting the bike etc so it won't get used that much.

Anyone an idea of cost to repair the fuel gauge issue ? Cant see it being a big job surely ?

Also is this a good van for the purpose described, I'm not overly interested in performance, i know its sluggish from what I've read online but thats not an issue for me, I'm more for getting the job done without problems than luxury.

Could you guys who own this van pass your advice as to whether it would be a good choice, or would you recommend something else ?

I couldn't believe how many issues are reported with the newer Scudos !!

Thanks in advance

Kev

Re: 2002 Scudo 1.9d

Hi Kev, welcome to the forum.... I have one of these vans, 1868cc non turbo diesel. It has served me well for the last 8 years or so and in the past has been used to transport my bike to trackdays etc. Its fine for the weights you'll be carrying, Bike/stands/generator/fuel/spares/tools/wet wheels etc.
As you mentioned its not built for speed with it not having the turbo, but this has never been an issue for me. It is however reliable/comfortable and relatively cheap to run. I've never had any major issues with the van just a few niggly small ones.
It just ticks all the boxes for me really, 3 seats in the front so its practical although a little tight for 3 adults and in the past has helped me move house, recover friends crashed/broken down bikes and also been good for the tip/scrap run. Go for it, you should have no real issues if you look after it and maintain it well.
