I took my van to a garage, who were kind enough to try and re-set the fault light, for nothing.

They used what looked like a very small computer with a memory stick, and plugged it into the diagnostic port. Can I buy/borrow whatever the programme is, and a connector to the diagnostic port, so I can use it on a PC? What sort/name are these things?

Note, I recall seeing somewhere (here?) that the vehicle needs to be specified as "Peugeot Expert". If Fiat Scudo is selected, the airbag is not detected. This seems to be true. The garage man was quite surprised.

The blasted fault light would not go out (Air bag squib open circuit). When the fault was re-set ( a couple of times) the air bag light went out, then came back on again after a couple of seconds.

I suppose I will have to buy another component, unless anyone's got any other ideas? MOT is required very very soon.

I was told by Patons when I visited last year that the CPU for the Air Bag was deep in the floor below the drivers seat, that it was prone to water gathering around and buggering up the contacts...drying out if wet and a contacts clean and Vaseline smear might be an answer?

The problem is usualy one of the front seatbelt fasteners. A proper computer should be able to tell you which one is faulty.

For the puposes of MOT replacing the dash bulb with a blown one might suffice unless the testers a prickly one? Just make sure to fully repair when funds allow.

Doing this may well get it through its test but also remember if the light is on the airbags may not deploy in a collision. Leaving it this way could be the difference between walking out or being carried out !!!

I will need an MOT very soon.

I have ordered a used clockspring/squib.

I would like to know, if possible, about the diagnostic kit. I have a portable computer, but no diagnostic software or connecting wires. Would such be able to find faults with the seatbelt fasteners or the clockspring/squib? If so, where to buy?

Well, I fitted the new component. On starting the engine, the air-bag fault light went straight out.

I will ask about the diagnostic kit in a separate post.
