friends scudo 1.9d not starting in morning i suggested glow plugs changed them starts now but needs 3 heats said glow plug light only stopping on 2 seconds at most could this be dud relay cheers for replies

The glow plug relay operates for a time determined by a number of factors not least of which are ambient temperature, water temperature, ambient air pressure etc.... so it's difficult to say exactly how long they should be on for.

That said, connect a lamp to the glow plugs to see if power actually DOES get to them during the 'glow' period as, if the main relay is dodgy (quite possible) the contacts won't pass the power but the dash light will still be on.

just tried with bulb bulb lighting up when glow plug light is then going off tried this a few times worked every time so must be getting power but not enough heat to start off one turn thanks for info very helpful cheers

hmmmm.... are you sure the glow plugs are the right type? and all working? By disconnecting them (all individually) you can measure their resistance which should be very low (amost a short circuit). The symptoms you refer to point to one or more of the glow plugs being defective.

This one's sounding like worn injectors, cheapest way is to find a deisel specialist and get them retipped.
