Hi all,

This is my first post - great forum! I have already tried to find a solution to my Scudo problem here but didn't find anything that helped me with it.

Symptoms:

It is impossible to change into 1st gear and and 2nd is difficult. All others are fine. When driving it is easier to get it into 2nd but being stationary is almost impossible.

I had a look at the gear stick rods underneath the gear stick gaitor but it all looks fine...

Car's done 210k now. Clutch doesn't slip - tried to go in 3rd sitting against a wall and stalled nicely... :)

Any ideas what it could be? Are the gearboxes prone to trouble or is it more likely the clutch...

Cheers for any help...

Micha

If you've convinced yourself the clutch is fine, and it fully engages / disengages drive to the gearbox, I wouldnt be surprised if the gearbox synchro-hubs are worn at that mileage, might be worth checking the gearbox oil levels though, and topping up if necessary. If that doesnt fix it, maybe source a lower mileage 'box from a scrappies?

Many thanks for the replies...

Reverse gear behaves normally and is easy to change into, so I suppose that means a damaged gearbox. :-(

I'm planning to take the box out tomorrow (will check the oil level first though). Has anybody done this? Are there any tricks that would be worth knowing about?

Once out and having had a look at the clutch (just to be sure) is it difficult to take the gearbox apart and remove/replace the synchro hub?

What tools would I need for it. I suppose a puller would be necessary?

I'm confused about the price for the synchro hub though, on ebay one for similar models can be had for around £30 but when I phoned the local Fiat dealer I was quoted £406 !!! Any idea what I should be paying for it?

Cheers...
