Hi, my 2002 1.9 non-turbo scudo recently started to suffer from a stutter problem, as van was about to be part ex'd I didnt worry to much as it was more annoying than a problem. However yesterday the stutter turned into clouds of black smoke and severe power loss and something needed to be done quickly. This was where I came across this forum and read all posts referring to power loss, I then decided to bite the bullet and try a few of the suggestions - firstly carefully cleaning the MAF which made no difference, I then removed the EGR assy and found it to be caked with black soot. This was then carefully cleaned using loads of carb cleaner and clean rag and re-assembled and again no improvements were noted. I then tried blocking of the corrugated exhaust pipe to the EGR with a disc cut from a tin lid and placed between the two parts allowing the original securing clip to be used. This seemed to do the trick and power seems to be back and the smoke gone. I know this is probably a temp fix but it allows me to use the van till I find out what is causing the problem.
I would be grateful for any suggestions as i am thinking about replacing EGR assy or ven the cat converter but my knowledge of engines is limited so any views would be appreciated.
Van been running ok for a day now and will post if any problems do occur.

Hey bol how did you get on?
I've the same intermittent problem and wondered if your egr was the evil that lies within the belly of the scudo.....or something

Van ran perfectly for a just over a week when i then handed it over in part ex on new van, and then the problem dissappeared forever - ha ha. Never heard anymore from new owners so assume still running with temp fix in place (did forget to mention that to new owners). During the week i had it with this temp fix i noticed no adverse affects at all and van seemed to run like new - plenty of power and no smoke at all. I was hoping someone would explain what i had done by blocking off this pipe and why you need it in the first place!!. Hope this helps you out and good luck with problems

Hi could you gimme a guide how to do this, would like to do it to mine. Thanks
