Hi, my 2002 1.9 non-turbo scudo recently started to suffer from a stutter problem, as van was about to be part ex'd I didnt worry to much as it was more annoying than a problem. However yesterday the stutter turned into clouds of black smoke and severe power loss and something needed to be done quickly. This was where I came across this forum and read all posts referring to power loss, I then decided to bite the bullet and try a few of the suggestions - firstly carefully cleaning the MAF which made no difference, I then removed the EGR assy and found it to be caked with black soot. This was then carefully cleaned using loads of carb cleaner and clean rag and re-assembled and again no improvements were noted. I then tried blocking of the corrugated exhaust pipe to the EGR with a disc cut from a tin lid and placed between the two parts allowing the original securing clip to be used. This seemed to do the trick and power seems to be back and the smoke gone. I know this is probably a temp fix but it allows me to use the van till I find out what is causing the problem.
I would be grateful for any suggestions as i am thinking about replacing EGR assy or ven the cat converter but my knowledge of engines is limited so any views would be appreciated.
Van been running ok for a day now and will post if any problems do occur.
