Just bought a Mediatek SatNav on eBay. Uses IGO and is based on Windows CE. Cost only a penny under £40, so my expectations were'nt high. Have had a nice surprise.

Full spec includes UK, ROI and Euro maps; speed camera warning; settings for shortest/fastest route to destination; can be set to avoid toll roads, etc.

So far, it's great and I've tested it to find obscure places I already knew the way to(!) and it's succeeded every time.

Annoying voice, though, and it's constantly telling me I'm 'exceeding the speed limit' (don't think it understands 10% + 2).

On that subject, I'm wondering if I can install one of the celebrity 'voices' on sale for TomTom or Garmin? Any ideas about compatibilty?

YHi

Thanks for the response.

It's IGO8 'My Way'.

I've had a look at the site you mentioned and there are 'voices' listed, but they appear to be just the bog standard satnav ones. I'm kinda hoping I can get Billy Connolly or Victor Meldrew guiding me around the country!!

I was having a look myself as I fancy a weegie ned voice but it seems like you cant get them for igo. Plenty for Garmin and Tomtom. I think the voice for igo is TTS files. Some maps from Tomtom work in igo so the voice's may work if using the same file structure. Your problem may be a licencing issue as you have a legit copy so that may not like third party software.

Sorry to take a while getting back.

I've tried contacting the (chinese) manufacturer, but no response.

Don't know about file formats.

One clue may be that, on eBay, the unit was advertised as 'Tom5'!

Can't even get helpful info from the distributor either.

Dono, Tom 5 could be something like tomtom copy and it has a 5" screen. Anyway it looks like your ass is out the window with comedy voices on igo. Have a poke around that forum ^^ as it looks like your device is windows CE6 (Mine is 5) Like me you can run the sat nav software from the SD card so it looks like you can run Garmin and if so you can download voices. Must admit I do prefer igo as its easy to use. If you ever go trips round Europe you can install a bit of software in you computer called tyre and plot your route using google maps then save that to your sat nav. This works for igo, garmin and tomtom.
