I've got a Tomtom with an EasyPort holder - a sucker-pad one...

...mounting it on the Windscreen is okay, but as I drive a GP it's miles away from my hands.

I'm not too keen on a fixed/semi-fixed mount near the centre console, as I want it closer to my eyeline as I drive (I'm not keen on the idea of quickly pressing the button to "find my nearest petrol station", only to look up and see the rear end of a Police car rapidly approaching...).

So, the question is - how did you mount yours?

i have a grande punto, which has a rather superfluous triangular window either side of the dashboard, useless for everything, yet perfectly sized and located (assuming you have a goose neck for your satnav like i have) for a satnav :D thats where i have mine :)

Now that sounds like a plan - tell me, does the power lead reach okay across to the socket?

yeh, its actually a satnav app for my smart phone, and the phone charger (coiled springy thing) easily reaches from the ciggy lighter across the steering column to the bottom of the phone :)....i put the wire behind the indicator stalk and its fine :)

doesn't interfere with anything :)

I saw something (I'm sure it was from MobileFun) one of those non-slip pads with a built in suction ring, so you could stick your sat nav to it as normal and just place it on top of your dash and it won't move anywhere. Trying to find the link just now ...

I keep my navigation system strapped into the passenger seat. She locks onto the stars every morning, and I do a map refresh each January sale in WHSmiths!:D

Centre of windscreen, as low as possible, so my front seat passenger can adjust should it be needed :)

(If I want it turning off, I just pull the plug out of the lighter socket and it shuts down on its own lol)

Seems to me that manufacturers could utilise the acres of unused dashboard to incorporate a cubby for satnavs.
something as simple as a covered recess, lift the flap, take out the satnav and stick it in an adjustable cradle built into the flap.
The windscreen then remains 'telltale ring' free, all cars have the same facility therefore no thieves will know if you have a tomtom stored in there or just your loose change and the satnav is next to and in the same plane as your dash dials.

I stick mine to the screen as close as possible to the offside edge and in the line of sight that incorporates the bonnet (that useless part of the windscreen where all you can see through it is bonnet) so not blocking my view of the road.

so it should be, only divs have it where it can block even part of their view. its also not legal to play with its buttons when driving so don't see the need to be able to reach it
mine locks when it detects im moving

still blocks some view but nothing i class as needed.
