The new map (version 6.75) is UK and Ireland plus major roads of Western Europe.was released April 2007

I purchased Tomtom Go 510 On 17th April and it came with version 6.60 maps of UK and Ireland only. I emailed Tomtom customer care and complained that my device was brand new and was out of date already. I received an email asking me to write to TomTom,I did so advising them that the product was not of merchantable quality and requested a free update and If they would not do so I would refer the matter to my local Trading Standards Officer.

I later received an email from them saying that the new map (6.75) had been added to my tomtom home account. I connected my tomtom to my PC, fired up "home" and did a check for updates and the new map (and new postcode file) appeared as available downloads. I downloaded them to my PC and then installed them on my device. I had already copied my original SD card's contents onto a 1Gb card, so there was plenty of room.

I'm pretty impressed with customer care as they gave me the new map for free.

not really feasable though, what are they going to do..recall every tomtom still in stores when a map update comes out? This is a better way of doing it.

Ehh... why not provide 1 or so many months of updates for free for new purchasers when they register their product. Rather than having to threaten them with action from trading standards! (n)

I agree they should as well, I never got the luxury either when I got my new Tomtom. But I'm happy in the knowledge that I'm stealing their maps off the internet.

Most people would just assume that the maps were up to date, or never even check tbh.

After you've put your tom tom details on your computer you can update your maps etc online.

I am just waiting for my TomTom 730T to arrive and in the advertising blurb it said that you get a free update through TomTom Home to whatever the latest software is available.
Obviously lots of sat navs will have been hanging around in shops/stores waiting to be sold and new updates will have been released so I think this should be offered to anyone registering their equipment for the first time.

You do. BUT only upto a certain version. Our Tomtom One (Europe) came with version 6. We got free upgrade to version 7 via TomTom Home but NOT version 8. So they give you the next version free basically.

I just went and downloaded a Tomtom8 Torrent  .

Register with TomTom and they will email you regularily giving you free updates, for speed cameras etc you will also have to take out an annual subscription and again they often have special offers.
Hope this helps.

Yeah it works perfect :). Its got I.Q routing which does your route based on the time of day you going and avoids traffic black spots.

If you download it and need a hand getting it to work let me know (y) :)

Chris, does it have that new 'Advanced Lane Guidance' thing too?

Could i have a link please?:chin:

well tom toms policy is that no mattery what unit you buy you will be offered the latest maps, same applies to garmin. so you should get version 8 alrite, they may not have created an update disc instead of the full version but if you phone them up they should sort you out

btw, 730T good choice (y) really loving these units atm, pity about the price, competitors are a bit cheaper but IQ routes is a genius idea.

yea its always hard 2 get away with a set up your used to but youve stuck to the devil you know at least (y)i cant fault the unit, only thing i would like to change is the address set up, as in ungroup N Ireland englad scotland and wales instead of collectivly as united kingdom. would speed the whole thing up

Just got my 730T back from TomTom after it's second repair under warranty. Connected to computer and told that new updates were ready to download. I thought the server was overloaded as it took over 4 hours (and I'm on 20M cable BB).

Anyway, when it finished I went to check it out and get a blank screen saying "can't locate map". So I now have to return it to them for a third time or does anyone have a link to Central & Western Europe maps V8.15 that they can post a link for? I need to use it this weekend so returning it is not a good ioption for me.
