Hi Guys, not sure if this has been asked before but, has anyone installed tomtom on their N73? Where did you get the software from? Any problems?
Im thinking of getting tomtom, and i like the idea of having it on my phone.

Im thinking of getting tomtom, and i like the idea of having it on my phone.

I havn't installed it on an N73, but to my knowladge it uses the same software as the n90 which i have installed it on.

assuming you have a bluetooth gps device, it works really well, the only problem i had was with the n90 and occasionally it would freeze.

software you need is Tomtom5. if you get it from the usual places, you might need to download the voices and maps seperatly.

and officially tomtom5 doens't come with full postcode searching as standard, but if you have a freind (me) with zip.postcode file you can copy this in to the "ZIP" folder and low and behold, full post code searching ;)

hope this helps

I got this, got the software given to me by mate, but lost install now.

I would say, you need a phone holder thay stays still or the image shakes. Also you need good eysight as with the size of the screen, it's not the easiest to see.

Apart from that, works on, but i need to sort my GPS, which keeps dropping.

Holux are apparently the best around. They use this Sirf Star III chip which is the bit which does the biz.

Mines not Holux, but does have the same chipset. Mine take a while to start up, but there are ways around things like that. I turn the GPS on, then get in the car, setup, and by then have my signal. Its same size as N73 screen, and doesn't slide alover the place! Just gotta stop it cutting off. (Think i'm doing something TBH).

it's even easier to get it intagrated.

because it uses a flip switch instead of a push switch (and therefore has an on and off position not a microswitch) you can rig it up to the ignition circuit on your car and have it charge via the same circuit. so you can leave it wired up behind the dash and it will turn on as soon as you start the engine. Ah ha, thanks guys,
now i need to get tomtom 5.
I had tomtom 6, but could make it install, kept getting "not compatible".
Good place to get TT5? Or the Holux?

Got myself the tomtom 6 software, anyon recoment a decent gps reciever for it, im looking into the Holux GPS Slim 236 as we speak....

Quick update on this.
The Holux 321 linked with my phone over bluetooth and to the satelites very quickly and with no problems at all. All you need to do is press one button!
I decided to see how good the tomtom 6 mobile was, so i put in a mates postcode and off i went. There are various routes to his house and i had assumed that it would take me the quickest way. I followed the voice as it made me turn around from the quick way that i know, i thought this can be right as it wanted me to go the long way.
I ended up at my mates house taking the long way (was 10 min late). I decided to take the quick way home, then i found out why the tomtom wanted me to go the long way in the first place, road accident.
Result! (for me, not for the people in the accident, btw no one was hurt) The tomtom had made me avoid the accident/road closure, and the Holux never once got disconected. I am going to see how good it is on a longer journey, its going to take me to the modified car nationals on Saturday. Fingers crossed.
