Couldnt you pick up a 2nd hand part, or take it to bits and see what size the screen it perhaps you could salvage something, am i right in thinking its a black and green graphical interface rather than mapping etc. So you might be able to use a calculator screen.
Still i think your best option realistically would be to get a 2nd hand unit. I would imagine FIAT would tell you you need to get a whole new system.
Plus you dont want to spend more than a 3rd party unit would cost, ie £100 as that would end up being a pointless exercise.

its got the lines on the screen that they all have, getting second had no good because they all seem to have the lines as well 
think theres a software update on this........need to check
