Hello all: warm South African greetings.

I'm trying to fix up my Fiat Strada 1.4 Life pickup - or "bakkie" as we say here - but it seems my bonnet release catch doesn't work. I don't know if the cable's snapped or what.

Please help: I want to fix the car but I can't get the bonnet open!

Thanks in advance :worship:

I'm not sure anyone here will be able to specifically help you as the Strada Life Pickup was never sold here in the UK.

However we can try some general help/advice.

1) When you pull the bonnet release level does it move freely or does it appear to be stuck?

2) If it moves freely then the cable has either broken or become detach at one end or the other

3) If it is stuck/tight then getting someone to press down on the bonnet whilst you operate the lever may release it. Will require the catch/latch to be lubricated and adjusted afterwrds

4) If the cable is broken or detached check to see if it is broken or detached at the release lever. If so then there is a good chance you can grab the inner core with some pliers/mole grips

5) If broken/detached in the engine compartment then you are going to have to look at how you can get access to the bonnet latch mechanism

Thanks very much s130: I'll try those and see what happens.

We do have the fiat pick ups here in Crete ...I have a friend who has one in this village ....The above advise looks like a starting point ..next try getting under it and see if you can reach up and un do the catch or push the catch with a bit of wood /steel ...maybe with a pal pushing down on the bonnet as you poke from beneath ....good luck with it ..they are great little trucks ....
